i like the way you've written how you feel and understand about religion. i feel much the same. i also think that if you take a bit from every religion and put it together it would be magical, and more accepted by everyone on earth!!!

Well the problem with your question is that a religion usually follows with commands that God gave. The commands that God gave are what differs between religions. If I told you that my way of worshiping God is to sacrifice virgins you would call me a criminal but the ancient myans used to. There are people that think that is barbaric to sacrifice animals, although the Jewish religion prays for the time when we are able to hold sacrifices again. Now just like there are people that say that virigins sacrifices are immoral, there were once people who would say that you are doing something wrong if you don't sacrifice virgins.
You say "Many horable things have been done in the name of a certan religion" but that doesn't mean that it the religion condones what they do. I remember going to listen to a speaker talking about why the muslim world was so upset after there were cartoons that made fun of mohommed, but he never once said that the actions taken were correct.
I know that the Jewish religion does believe that we are so weak that we need to be told how to worship. Rabbis tell us what words that we have to pray 3 times a day, but it doesn't mean that we can't pray more. Years ago we used to pray to God all the time on our own but we stopped so the rabbis made the decree. This is similar to signing a letter written by someone else and the writer of the letter wrote it in such a powerful way that it gets the attention and calls out for change.
We are weak in other ways also. We aren't supposed to touch the opposite sex who isn't our spouce or close relative. Because we are weak and a touch might become something more.
It is better to be week, reconize the fact, and put a preventitive mesure than to do something immoral. Like an alcoholic should try and stay away from alcohol.

Because they are wrong and are misleading the masses.Yes religion is your own way of worshiping God and yes there is only one religion and that is the one preached by Jesus the Son of God.Not all people think for themselves.Commandment no 2 states that idol worship is a sin .IT IS CLEARLY WRITTEN and yet people still kneel before a wooden or stone carving of Mary. As clear as day Mark 2:5-6 says that it is blasphemy for man to assume to be able to forgive sin against God.And yet millions confess and are forgiven their sins by a MAN.So yes some people are weak and has to be told how to worship correctly
No not all religion is created from the bible.Islam has nothing to do with the bible. They do not even worship God but allah who just happens to not be God.Yes better to have a constant relationship with God .No Sunday is not the sabbath.Saturday is the sabbath. In about 1536 the bishop of Rome or one of his underlings decided to change the Word of God an make Sunday the Sabbath. And so we all follow the beast instead of God by keeping the Sabbath on Sunday.

Your literary acumen notwithstanding, I appreciate your sentiment, but I do not hear voices in my head like you do. Maybe it's genetic, I don't know. I think there is too much god stuff on this forum - Religion & Spirituality is just one category among many here, but it seems no matter what category is visited, it always comes back to R&S. Your question, "why do people criticize religion?" is a valid one and deserves an answer. I can only answer thusly: If you see a mistake, I would hope that you would speak up and try to correct that mistake. You acknowledge that many horrible things are done in the name of a "certain" religion. I would say that many horrible things are done in the name of most religions. Even some things that you think are "good" have horrible consequences, like being fruitful and multiplying or denying means of birth control or prophylaxis to third world nations. I do not begrudge you your "relationship" with God. I do, however, feel that enough is enough, and that there are plenty of websites where people of the same beliefs can congregate and exchange blessings. I'm not sure it says anywhere in your Bible to "go forth and prosyletize" but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. But suppose I read some book and took it for gospel, and that book told me to go forth and make war on the disbelievers . . . well, you get my drift. Maybe some other books might give you a little broader perspective. Books on science, philosophy . . . you know, some non-fiction stuff. Peace.

I think there are several reasons why people criticize other religions and people of other religions.
* Some people are closed-minded. They are convinced they have found THE truth and that there could not possibly be another way (equal, greater, lesser, or otherwise) to the truth than their way.
* Some people are insecure. I mean, what if by some chance they are wrong? Well, if they are going to be wrong then they want everyone else to be wrong, too.
* Some people are just hateful. It's the same reason racism, sexism, and all those other -isms exist. It's easier to slander what you don't know or understand than it is to attempt to learn. Different isn't bad, folks!
* Some people need crystal clear, black and white answers. They don't want to deal with the effort involved in working through murky waters of uncertainities. They find something they like and in order for it to work, it HAS to be that way.
* Some people have had bad experiences with different religions and have chosen to react in a critical way.
* Some very rare people criticize other religions in the way the word was originally meant. These people take the time to learn about other religions, to think over their tennents, and then raise RESPECTFUL questions about what they don't understand or what seems to be illogical to them. The best of these people do so with the purpose of becoming richer in their knowledge. I like these people.

God (Jesus) did say in the Bible, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can get to the Father, but through Me." And there are many more verses that basically say the same thing, which means, if you claim to worship God, the God of the Bible, just as He says He is, without adding or taking away anything to make Him fit your mold of who you'd like Him to be, than any other religion that claims God is anything different is wrong. I suppose many people belonging to other religions criticize other religions out of insecurity (many of them tell you it's a sin to even visit another church). I personally do not try to criticize other religions, but I definitely question them, and try to get others to do the same. Of course, I'm absolutely convinced that true, Biblical Christianity is the only way to connect with God and go to heaven. And you're right, we need to be intimately close with God everyday, throughout the day, all the time, so we are likeminded with Him. Going to church isn't supposed to be the only time you connect with God. Church is about having relationships to help you along your spiritual journey, and about serving God so that others can come to know him too. Church can be a place where you go to get something out of it, but that's not all it's for. Being a Christian isn't supposed to be about having a church or person convincing you that their ways is right, and the only way. It's about God's way. I know being so absolute is totally unpopular now, but God doesn't change. He's real, He's right, and He deserves everything we have to offer Him. Oh, yeah, and He created you, died for you, and loves you more than you'll ever know.

Everyone thinks their religion is better- in Catholic school, we were taught that all christians got the chance to go to heaven, but only Catholics went straight up, no waiting or anything. People disagree with other's thoughts. If one person says that Jesus is the prophet because He was the son of God, that person was probably taught that by birth. If someone says that Moses was, and Jesus was just a very good person, but Moses was the first, they have been told that their whole lives. Same with Muhammed.
Religion is argued over because it solves the biggest mysteries in life: Where will you go when you die? What must you do to get where you want to be? Who should I be like? Who should I avoid?
To bring it to simple terms:
Someone says that a ball is red without seeing it.
This person has 100 friends who also agree that the ball is red.
100 other people say thatthe ball is not red, nor will it ever be red. It is green.
The green think the reds are idiots, and the reds think the greens are, too.
Who was right? The ball might just be blue. We don't know who to follow, and we don't know where we're going, so we turn to religion. Everyone who belongs to a religion think that their opinion is the right one.

This appears a really gentle problem quite to the more youthful era. And difficult too! heritage aside (the previous is in hardship-free words good to study from), The fingers on your hand isn't of an same length, so the international isn't that ideal. in spite of the undeniable fact that, if we may be able to easily attempt to study extra about the different social gathering that is going to go far to construct understanding. To desensitize the problem, ask your self an same question yet contained in the context of the relations next door. Is it sinful to criticize them? i think that there is not any proper or no incorrect in our moves purely consequences. So previously you criticize, are you prepared to shoulder the outcomes (atrocities or unity) shop in ideas, you'll attain what you sow.

lol. Right on. That's about the most healthy attitude regarding religion I've come across. I'd disagree with the part of the bible being the source of ALL religions, but that's simply a detail. I suspect criticism of religion is a backlash effect of what I refer to as being "AGGRESIVELY christian/catholic/whatever" such people seem to chase down, harrass, etc folks who don't agree with their particular viewpoint; trying to "save" em whether they like it or not. The person preached at may've heard the same thing thousands of times, and at different levels of vehemence. Intruding on all avenues and issues to try and convert, It quickly goes from irritating, to infuriating. It's not ONLY christians, but they do seem to be the worste of the lot at it. I hope I don't sound critical of you're question. I honestly wish more had your attitude. Seems like the outspoken of all faiths do their church more harm than good.

I worship the God of my choice and if people do not like that they can kiss my @@@ but I'll tell you, the Catholics criticize, judge, and are racists and they mock Jesus Christ as well as they try to scare or brainwash people to their beliefs and their way is the only way. Jesus died a Jew, when he was alive he dressed in rags and told his sermons in a grassy field or mountain top or lake. He did not like gambling in temples and he was Jewish. He had absolutely NO contribution to the Bible at all yet it has every detail of what he believed. Yeah OK I'll take that at face value. The Catholics stole the Jewish God and made him Catholic. Violating one of their Ten Commandments. They mock Jesus with there bingo nights, there gold chalice's, fancy embellished robes and customs, Jesus never did that at all. Also it is funny how these priest's get away with molesting children. I see absolutely nothing the Catholic church is doing to rectify this huge problem.
