I went to get an oil change for my 2005 Focus and the mechanic said he changed my air filter. I just recently got my latest oil change and this mechanic told me that my Focus has no air filter! That I have a differnt type of filter which needs to be changed everything 10,000 miles.

Where can I find a good website that'll give me the 411 on my car so that I don't get jipped when I go to the mechanic again? Is there a website that tells you the basic "need to know" about car maintenance?

Best way is to go outside, open the hood and look down.. should be a big box hooked to a tube.. on this box is a thing that says dirty and reset..... this is a filter restriction meter.. it measures how dirty the filter is

On the focuses I see 05 and newer, it uses a new more efficent air filter that can't be inspected physically but only with an air filter minder... Plus you would know it, because cost is roughly $100 and the expected life of the filter is 50-100k miles.. basically the same filter material that is on the powerstroke diesel from what I've heard.

Read your maintainace manual that's with the owners manual and follow it, it shouldn't lead you astray at all.. But some of the quickie lubes know people won't look and sometimes pull scams that possibly you caught them at.

Bring it to a Ford dealer, go to the parts deptartment and ask for a parts man and ask him what kind of filter your car has... that answer should give you an idea of the place to stay away from now on...

The one thing I tell my customers,
The most unread book on the market is the little one they give you free with a purchase of a new car...
Take it to your library and read it. there is stuff in it that will make you say Huh I dinnodat.
Also if you buy it new your salesman should know the car as well as the service manager.
Or Bring it by my shop. I have a library full of owners manuals. and I have ASE trained Staff that I sent to FORD Chrysler, GM to get the goods on servicing the cars they work on.
