Asherah (or the Ashereths) were the female fertility gods. The counterparts to Baal or Baalim. The are idols, not God.

There is evidence that Asherah/Ashtaroth/Astarte/Ishtar/Isis was once married to El/Yahweh/Jehovah/Allah in references from their respective legends and lore, but I believe they got divorced or otherwise estranged because of differences of opinion of how to handle mankind. I mean, look at God's laws, he hates women, and he doesn't want anyone to get laid, and he's very emphatic about how he is the only true God . . . doesn't his attitude remind you of a bitter divorcee?
