The typical image is of the West is of a hard-drinking, sex-hungry, parents-disrespecting, individualistic societies and this view prevails even among Asian immigrants who have lived in the West for decades.

You are right. That is the typical image. It is true. Asian people respect their parents, themselves, and others. But here it is a different story. We are spoiled! Also, not to take away anything from Asians, but some do take advantage of the situation. I feel that anyone here in Canada, should be able to do what ever he would like to do, as long as it doesn't get into a situation where they want to change other people. And that's the problem. I don't care about your religion, but don't shove it down our throats. If we all live together, great. But that other person, I can't remember her name, and I don't really want to, but she is a relative or something like that with Bin ..... and then she said I am not asking for my rights, I am demanding them. Then you wonder why there is a problem with Canadians accepting this stuff. I know we are a 'just society' but come on. This is getting to be just absurd.

I'm Asian, I live in the US, and I understand and appreciate deeply positive Western values. All other Asians I know think positively of the West and all my family members see America as a place for opportunity and hope, not of a drunk, sexual, disrespecting individualistic society. I think you're idea of what Asians think of the West are a bit biased and untrue.

Live by example. Personally, I don't totally disagree with them (though I come from an immigrant family as well).

You want to show them positive western role models, then be one.

I live in an area where there are lots of Asians. They are great people. They work hard, don't complain, and have assimilated to this country very well. I am proud to know them.

A lot of people are like that, but it doesn't mean everyone's like that. I'm Asian, I know that, and I HATE seeing that. It's so degrading. But I love America, because there are so many opportunities.
