My roomate is a haristylist. I have asked her this question before and she said a good tip is 15%. So be good to the hairstylist, especially if they are good to you. If I really like them I tip 20.

My hairstylist charges $40 so I add an extra $5.00 for tip which probably isn't enough but I'm in college and I don't make very much money yet.

Unless it's a really upscale salon, 15% is plenty. Remember, they probably are leasing their stations and getting a portion of the haircut money as well.

depends on how much I can afford.. I go to the same lady I have been going to for years, so if I can I'll tip her lots, but if I can't I wont and will try to make up for it next time.

depends on how much you paid and if you like the results. I usually tip more if I really like what the lady does.
