I am staying in LA from sept 13-17, What are some "Must See" things in the LA/Holylwood area?

I know the basics - Universal Studios, Hollywood, ect. But what about shopping, beaches, ect??

Thanks in advance!

Be sure to go to the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It is free and the most beautiful museum in the area. You have incredible views of the whole Pacific coastline, the L.A. skyline, the architecture is unbelievable and the art exhibits are awesome. It is not too crowded even on the weekends. I lived in L.A. area over 50 years and have seen it all. Stay away from Hollywood, it is a ghetto. Shopping is no great shakes. Malls are nicer in Dallas. If you want to take a drive go down to Fashion Island in Newport Beach. It is an outdoor mall with a view of the ocean and while you are down there take a drive along Pacific Coast Highway to Laguna Beach. The L.A. coastal beaches from Santa Monica to Huntington are crowded and dirty. If you have kids Disneyland is always special. Traffic is horrendous so try traveling midday or on the weekend. The Huntington Library in San Marino is very nice too and not too crowded.

Well, if you are a die-hard shopper, there's Melrose Avenue in Hollywood/West Hollywood and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
If you want the souvenir shops, stay on Hollywood Blvd.
Beaches - Malibu, Pismo and Leo Carrillo
Santa Monica Pier

If you're in the Hollywood area, check out Farmer's market and The Grove on 3rd and Fairfax. It's a great place to have a bite to eat and people watch.

Check out the Getty Museum. It's an expensive way to spend the day.

Watts Towers- definitely the coolest sight in LA.
Disney Hall downtown - go to a concert there if you can
Huntington Library in Pasadena - beautiful gardens and art museum
Venice Beach for people-watching, but Zuma Beach in Malibu for swimming
Melose Avenue for hip clothing, Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills for the obscenely-priced merchandise
