The color of his gums shouldn't make any difference as far as dehydration goes. If you pinch his skin and it stays pinched looking, he's dehydrated. Make sure he always has plenty of clean water available and he shouldn't have any dehydration problems. Have fun with your kitten!

You can pinch the skin on it's back, or forleg. If the skin doesn't bounce back to it's orginal condition quickly and "tents", you know your kitty is dehydrated. You can also press on the kittens gum with a finger and see how quickly the blood flows back. If the gums show litte change your kitty isn't getting enough water. However, from thd sounds of it, your kitty has pink healthy gums. If he plays and is active, eats and drinks, he's probably OK. Make sure your kitty has plenty of FRESH water to drink whenever he wants to. Good luck!

If he's active, he should be ok.

If the gums are too light, it could be an iron deficiency.
Here is a quote from http://www.fanciers.com/cat-faqs/health-care.shtml

From kittenhood, accustom your cat to being handled. Look into its ears (clean, white and light pink), eyes (clear, no runniness, inner eyelids may blink but should remain open), nose (clean and pink (or its normal color) and mouth (clean, light pink gums) regularly. Hold it still and look at its anus; pick up its paws and look at the pads and claws. This will have the added benefit that you will notice any changes from normal quickly and be able to call up your vet if something is wrong.

you can press his gum they should turn white then go right back to pink in the matter of a second or so...if they stay white for a few more seconds then he is dehydrated. you can also pull on his skin and if it goes back right into place then he is fine if it stays up then he is dehydrated.

If you are worried about you kitten give it some milk with a little sugar. You can also give gatoraid. This is helpful especially after long periods of diarrhea or vomiting. It is good to ask your vet for sure. Since we can not physically see the kitten it is almost impossible to give a treatment procedure.
