Religious people, do you find Yahoo Answers a good way to relieve your violent tendencies. It’s a well known fact that religion is the biggest cause of violence, wars, murder, and hatred, since humanity began. Even the Bible is no different as it seems to encourage such behaviour. Just read Genesis for example.

I notice a lot of anger and hatred seems to be an inherent quality of religious people all over the world, and it’s pleasing to see so many Atheists trying to help and encourage religious people away from such folly.

I feel that Yahoo Answers may well be a good way for religious people to relieve themselves of their warring nature rather than killing innocent human life.

Hi Brenda, i think that's a good post, but maybe a bit misleading. Before religion even existed, even in the forms that we consider them today, people had violent tendencies, and there was a lot of killing, a lot of violence.

There are many examples of this from religious and non-religious events, that's the sad part. Religion can still be a concept, just like a gun or the media, it can be used correctly or incorrectly.

If practitioners of any faith, belief, political system do not recognize the need to transform the minds of hatred, anger, intolerance for example, then there will always be violence.

I do agree that often religion can attract a certain fanatical mind, the reasoning for this, is that it offers absolute truth. I am right, you are wrong. This is definitely good, so you are definitely evil. This often justifies violence, it makes it right, when most people will concur that violence and hatred are the cause of more suffering, not less.

Tell me what you think of this.

Julia Encarnacion said it well...
It is an oxymoron, because anyone who is truly religious isn't violent.
The 2 practices are by definition mutually exclusive.
The most prominent example in the present time is the Islamic jihadists, who supposedly kill "in the name of Allah."
Everyone in touch with reality, even including true believers in Islam, know that these jihadists and radicalists aren't really religious.
They have just used religion as a smokescreen for their Muslim version of eugenics, i.e. to make the whole world Muslim through warfare.
Even though you didn't mention any particular religion, no religion, most of all Christianity, encourages or allows violence in it except for the most necessary reasons, like capital punishment or self-defense.
You mention "killing innocent human life" in the end of your prejudiced question.
You must be aware that the murder of 3 million innocent fetuses every year in America by mostly atheists and non-religious people is as violent as it gets, even if it's in the name of "free choice."
The reasons for your prejudice against religious people (probably just Christians) may be personal or philosophical, but I suggest alleviating your own anger 1st before you judge others as being angry (ironically because you are angry).
Perhaps if you start judging others less, you will see that there is less in others to judge.

I'd have to agree with you. Most people have spending time to spread about other religion and what they don't realize that in reality, they are making others hate their own religion.

I come here because I like to engage arguments. I used to do that with the Christian missionaries and Jehovah Witnesses until they realized they need to learn more about their own religion before bashing others.

About the Athiests, I don't know I can agree with them about them "trying to help" part.
I see them using the same exact words that religious nutcase use to make a point.
For example, an Athiest would say "The proof that all religions are wrong is that every religion says they are right religion but the truth is they all are wrong, become an Athiest" Doesn't sound like a strong argument to me.
Some Athiests say "Religions are wrong becuase look and see how many people actually kill each other in the name of God! I say, KILL ALL THOSE RELIGIOUS NUTCASES".

It's difficult to answer that question. I'm sure that some people feel relieved to express their strong opinions. Still, I suspect that others express their beliefs and these beliefs simply become more entrenched by simple reinforcement of ideas. The current situation with Islamic extremists seems to be an example of the latter. I suspect that for each Lebanese or Hezbollah person that's been killed, there are 10 others that step forward to fill the void.

Yes, I think this is a healthy sign for releasing ones emotions. But with our governnemt suffering from paranoia, I believe we just have to limit our words that would incite violence to anyone.
However, I beg to totally disagree that religion is biggest cause of all these violence, murder and hatred.
Eversince man learned to own a property, he started to secure his boundary first from wild and astray animals. Then he realized that there are also other people who would want a piece of his own and started to develop a device to deter an encroachment. Greed and hate developed them into warring neighbors. Survival became the triggering point to discoveries of many developments in human lives.
The Holy Book then was written with biased to the safety of its inhabitants. Like the Old Native Indians who set their own laws not to give in to strangers any of their properties without a fight as they attribute everything as God given graces to their flocks.
Expect the Holy Bible to have those similar messages because it was written for the Jews by the Jewish Leaders whose intention is to protect it inhabitants from being slaughtered and reduced to numbers that will not fulfill the promise Of God to Abraham that his descendants will be as many as the stars in heaven. Until now they have that promise in mind so, they will fight for everything they have to protect and stay in that land.
Haggar, the mother of Ysmael and founder of Islamic traditions was also promised by God that her descendants will also grow to be a strong nation yet would served as a pain in the sides of Israel. That is a prophesy happening at the moment. Not that God has designed it to happen but rather what he saw happening because of human greed. So, it is not the religion that caused all these. It is caused by humans who used religion as their reason to be inhuman.

"Religious violence" is an oxymoron.

Any time you read of violent acts being done "in the name of God," don't believe it. These fanatics aren't doing their violence in God's name, anymore than they're doing it in Frank Sinatra's.

Anyone can claim that they're doing this or doing that in God's name, but that doesn't necessarily make it true.

It's telling that it's only the religion-bashers who seem to take these "violence in the name of God" people's claims at face value.

The rest of us know better.

Not just religious but agnostic folks as well are just as vitriolic. Hope Yahoo Answers provide for the atheist congregation an opportunity to vent their many frustrations .

I so have to agree with LuD. It is a bit hypocritical to say Atheists try to help religious people away from their follies of violent tendencies when every one (even Atheists) have violent tendencies.
