It's all about money, The various boxing organizations took their best fights to Pay Per View and left those of us who used to watch on ABC and others suddenly were told to pay to watch or forget it, basically. Plus there is way too many organizations with their own championships and we end up with too many champions in too many weight classes . I can remember when we had one heavyweight champion such as Muhammed Ali. Also ther just isn't that much appeal from todays fighters. It's become too bland. I don't even know who any champions are any more.

I think it has to do with a few factors. The first being that the heavyweight division has lacked that one fierce, universally accepted champion. Can we say Mike Tyson during the late 80's and early 90's? We have a bunch of overweight fighters all claiming to be the next great heavyweight and its just not happening. Also, all these alphabet organizations from the WBC, to the IBF to XYZ. There are so many champions for so many weight classes and organizations that its been diluted for so long that the average fan doesn't know who is who.
Another reason is that we have the same fighters fight each other over and over again. Or you have them retread over and again as well. I mean James Toney is now a heavyweight? Don't we mean overweight. He looks as much as a heavyweight contender as does Tony Soprano.
Then you have fights that nobody wants to see---on pay-per-view no less. John Ruiz against anyone? C'mon! Then you have chickensh*t fighters ducking other fighters. Can someone say anyone against Antonio Margarito? Mayweather, De La Hoya, Mosley and a few others don't want to get into the ring with him. Instead they want to figtht each other and we have idiot boxing fans that actually pay to see them fight each other. What? Are they all going to beat up on Ferocious Fernando Vargas? Who's left? How many times, as entertaining as he is, can we watch Arturo Gatti make a miraculous comeback?
I remember seeing a young Salvador Sanchez beating Danny Lopez on CBS. I remember seeing Marvin Hagler battle with Vito Antefermo (?) I was a young kid back then but those were some fights. All we have is HBO and Showtime which is fine, remember Corrales vs. Castillo I? Hopefully, the promoters will take into consideration the waning numbers when it come to money and the growing discontent amongs fight fans and maybe, just maybe they'll begin to sell a better product.

Back in those days, nobody really knew what boxing was all about until Mohamed Ailee came into the picture, he was such a entertainer, that he brought the whole scene into the light, I was a child, and I watched it and got wrapped up in it too, it was a real family event! He made the sport, he was a entertainer and a real show man!
Joe Frasier was called "Smokin Joe" and when the two of them fought it was a national event, what a show! If you ever get a chance to watch Mohamed fight on a dvd do it, he was the greatest, and he agreed!
Wish I could remember the other ones! There were some great boxers back then, but Mohomid is the one who made them great by fighting them.

There are no more boxers who captures our imagination like Ali and Tyson. The talent pool is not there anymore compared to the 90's when Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe ruled the ring. And before that it was Ali, Frazier, Foreman and many others. Right now there aren't that much talented boxer so the appeal to the fans is waning. Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather are only two of the exciting boxers right now. What do you think? How about you?

the stock of fighters has diminished greatgly and there are way too many organizations, also money is the root of all evil in this sport.Years ago in the early 1950's boxing was on free tv 6 days a week and you saw the greatest fighters of all time for free. Then came closed circuit tv thru the movie theaters TNT- theatre network telelvision and then the money started
