this german guy told me that they always laugh at americans. he said that american men are feminine, because they eat lunch at some fast food joint drinking soda pops.

he said german men eat lunch and drink a beer with their lunch and its legal there.

he also said its gay to drink beer from a can. he said germans never drink beer from a can only from a bottle.

all of this pissed me off. why do they make fun of us there??

Why do we make fun of Germans?

Honestly, businesses and transportation ARE far more advanced in Europe. They love to brag about that kind of stuff. They have a big ego when it comes to that.....but then again, tell the next german guy who acts like that to answer who won the war? Tell him to drink a beer and cry at lunch about that while we enjoy all of our freedoms over here.

Ignorance--the same reason why anyone would make fun of anyone of another culture or ethnic group. It's the idea that "my way is the only way".

Actually, there's nothing wrong with gentle teasing if the recipient of the teasing can take it, and if the teasing isn't mean-spiritied. However, in this case, it sounds like there's a lot of judgmentalism and condemning going on--especially the condemning of anything that's different.

Well for starters, the opinion of one person never reflects the general opinion of an entire population. But even then, it's just the cultural difference. And it's not like we dont poke fun at them either. Try and tell me you haven't heard a "Germans love David Hasselhoff" joke.

He may make fun of Americans but I believe the general German population doesn't.

I think that guy was just trying to piss you off. I've been to Germany several times. My mother is German and half my family is over there. Maybe this guy and his friends are like that but most Germans are not.

I think that its pretty safe to say that they make fun of us as much as we make fun of them.

I must say though, it is nice to be-able to order a beer with your popcorn at the movies.

Not like the Germans have no reason to make fun of us.. we pay for everything on credit, eat excessive amounts of food that kills us, grow to 300+ pounds, hate everyone who isn't white christian and wealthy, and elect people like George Bush to represent our country... Hmm... I'm an american and I make fun of americans.

Germany has more respectable laws, better alcohol, better music, a better moral structure, and is more technologically innovative... So why do they make fun of us there?
