You are overweight, you can calculate that with the bmi calculator here:
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm
Someone of your height should be between 110-145 ibs.

Ways that worked for me to loose weight:

1. Excerise 3-5 days a week, at least 30 min a day
2. Weight lift every second day
3. Eat meals on smaller plates, which means smaller portions
4. DO NOT drink pop or juice (they contain too much sugar)
5. DO NOT eat pizza (order multigrain crust if you must)
6. DO drink 3-6 glasses of water a day
7 DO drink 1-3 glasses of milk a day
8. DO eat ice cream and yogurt - just not too much
9. Eat more often, with smaller meals
10. DO NOT bring a bag of chips to the tv- put a few in a bowl
11. DO NOT eat after super, at night
12. eat popcorn & pretzels instead of chips
13. eat veggies and fruit if you want a late night snack
14. Salad isnt any healthier- unless you use low fat dressing
15. You dont have to cut out desserts completely, just try eating less of them

The first thing you need to concentrate on is losing the extra weight before you start lifting weights or anything. Power walking or jogging would be the best thing. Start with 20 minutes 3x a week, and add five minutes each week. Also, you need to control your eating. Write down everything that you eat for a few days. This should give you an idea of the areas that you need to improve upon.

After a few days, compare what you're eating with what the Food Pyramid says. You should be getting about 1600 to 1800 calories a day if you want to lose weight.

I don't care what ANYONE else says. Fads and "Diets" do not work. You need to make a complete lifestyle change which involves making exercising and eating right a daily part of your life- for the rest of your life. I should know. I recently lost 50 lbs myself, and have kept it off for over a year now.

Good Luck!

Yeah, you are over weight. Go jogging in the mornings, or even walking. Do exercises that tap into you cardio zone, and tone your limbs don't forget the weights, lifting weights help burn more calories. Cut out the sugar as much as possible, but make realistic goal. Weight lose only happen and continue to happen with life changes. Talk to you heath care provider before running to your nearest store buying pills! I'm 5'3 and I got to be almost 200 while caring my child, its 3yrs later and I'm now 120, So you can do it. Hey enjoy life where you are today while incorporating changes.

Yeah your fat.....cuz usually people that are only 5'4" aren't near the weight of 188lbs..........well my idea to lose that weight around your Stomach/back area is workout...like do some sit ups and/or other stuff of that sort so you can lose that fat around that area of your body.

Now this does depend on how much fat/muscle is involved but you said you had the weight in your mid section/back so..

It's quite simple but you HAVE to be persistant -

DON'T go anorexic/starve yourself. Bad!!! What you need to do is cut down on fat (but don't eliminate) along with sugars. Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits but don't go overboard. Try to cut down on carbs but once again don't eliminate.

Exercise each day (unless you are injured) that you can, even if it's not a lot. Lift weights, jog, go on a walk or if you don't have much time you can do a few laps on your stairs.

Yes. Sorrry if I'm too direct. There is no fast way. You can do it by diet and exercise. Stay away from sugar. Exercise 5 times a week. Do weight lifting 3 times a week. Don't eat that cookie. East more protein and vegetables. Join a gym. You can do it.
