It is a stitch; a weak muscle crying out for lack of use. You can build it up by working out or walking fast and running more often to build up that muscle and tolerance to the activity.

Perhaps when you run or walk fast, you had something to eat before?
If I eat something light and go running within a half hour, I will also get pains in my lower sides.
To mitigate the pain, I interlock my fingers and put it behind my head.

They call this a "stitch" why I do not know, but I do get them when I walk fast. They are caused by air becoming trapped beneath your diaphragm muscle. Raise both arms over your head and take some slow deep breaths, this works for me!

I used to get pains in my right side all the time when I was little. Now, as an adult I don't get them anymore. I believe I used to get them because I wasn't drinking enough water. Try to increase your intake of water.

ok you get a pain in your side becasue of several different reasons....1) your out of shape, 2) your gaining muscle, 3) your stretching out the muscles in your side....these arent bad things so dont worry about it. if your in shape and you run alot then the pain is from the growth of muscles alot of times after you run or something usually your muscles ache and sometimes they hurt when your running or something.....

this is just my opinion....I think it's your lungs trying to expand to take in more air. Why it only happens on the right side, I don't know.
I might have known the answer when I was younger and on the track team. (in jr. high)
I just know that it happens to everyone who jogs or runs.

it has to do with your breathing. usually if I breathe too shallow while I'm running i get that too. Try taking long, slow and deep breaths while you are running- not fast shallow ones. that helps me

It's called sideache and it is caused by a lack of oxygen. you need to train. start slow and work your way up.

it happens when you don't breath properly...breath deeply in your nose and out through your mouth. If that doesn't help ask a doctor.
