Movie Theater popping oil is made of a mixture of either palm kernel oil or coconut oil with other oil, salt, flavor and coloring. The palm kernel or coconut oils are both solid at room temperature - they taste great but they are REALLY bad for you.

You can order one oil here:

When I was a kid there was a popcorn called TV time that had a tube of the solid popping oil attached to the bag of popcorn. Man was it good!

Ugh. Movie theatre popcorn always tastes stale to me.

Buy yourself an air popper and pop corn kernels to pop your own at home and then top as desired with melted butter and salt. It will taste ten times better!

Buy extra butter popcorn, if that's not enough melt some butter and let it cool off before pouring it over the popcorn.

Pop it fresh (not the bagged stuff) and use those oils that you can usually find on the shelf just under the jarred pop corn. It wont be exactly like movie theater but its darn close.

Orville Reddenbachers Popping and Topping Oil. Use it to pop the corn then try it as a topping....and try REAL BUTTER the next time for the topping see which one you like best. But use the popping oil to pop both.

Try cooking the regular kernels with the oil and add butter while it pops, When it's done, then you can put more butter afterwards, then salt.
