and had a 10 lb baby in 2004 and have seriously gained alot of weight. What should I do to lose this weight before I get diabetes, I cannot suppress my appetite.. tried hebalife and now seriously thinking of fasting for a kick start.. also thinking of gastric by-pass if i can.. looking for women in same situation as me.. also tried xenical...exercises and walking only lasts for a few days. Willing to try something that works for women like me.. I what they call extremely obese.. im scared and my normal weight before baby was 180 lbs but that too was obese.. part of my weight gain is also due to quitting smoking. I have also quit drinking alcohol and these both now have been out of my life for four months..but cant deal with my food addiction. what should I do?

Really, you need to talk to a doctor before starting an excersie program or diet. Most insurance will not cover gastric bypass unless you have tried and failed a 6 month, supervised diet at least.

What has to "work" is you. You have to decide you are worth it, that you are worth the work, the sacrifice and the time it will take to lose the weight. There is no magic potion, no wonder drug, no quick fix. You didn't gain the weight over night, and you can't lose it that way either. Gastric bypass is a life threatening operation, and certainly not an ideal solution for anyone. You are not heavy enough to be considered for it anyway.

The best solution for you is some self examination and commitment. When you decide that you are ready to be real with yourself, to be honest with yourself and to do what it takes to lose the weight, then I would suggest that you join Weight Watchers or something like it. Learn to control your portions and get some exercise. It is a lifestyle change, not just a "diet".

You CAN deal with a food addiction. You CAN lose the weight. You just have to be willing to work for it.

I'm slightly older than you - 33- and was in the same boat. Nothing worked until I realized that the only true way was to change my lifestyle and eating habits. I've been losing about 3 to 5 lbs per week since joining. Good luck to you. You can do it.

I'm 5'4" and used to weigh 212 pds. I joined Curves for exercise with other women just like us. I lost 60 pounds by going 3 x wk. I NEVER dieted, my appetite became naturally curbed with the continued exercise. At first I wasn't showing that I was losing weight on the scale, but my clothes were looser - i was gaining muscles as i was losing weight. The women aren't there to show off, there are no men and no mirrors - for those of us with already low self-esteem. you go at your own pace, it takes about 30 minutes, you don't have to shower or even change there if you don't want. I also found it a good social time outside the home with other adults who may be going through some of the same things I was.

Seriously, though, find some type of activity to fill the void instead of food. I ate to feed the emotional loss I was suffering. Once I identified the problem and dealt with it, everything was much easier, so yes, therapy may also be helpful...

Good luck - and remember - it's about your comfort and how you feel about yourself, not what other people think about you!!

Try Weight Watchers....it's the best plan because it's not a diet it's a life-style change.....you eat whatever you want but in proper servings. Nothing is off limits.....they also show you how to add exercise to you life. With the weekly meetings you'll find yourself looking forward to going. It costs $14 a week.

This is just a suggestion....most women who are overweight started out trying to lose 10-15 lbs. You lose the weight and go back to eating like you did before and then you gain the weight back and more so now you're 25lbs overweight & you've screwed up your metablismt. If you keep doing this in 5 years you can weigh as much as 100lbs more than when you originally started. My advice DO NOT go on anymore diets until you're 100% sure you're ready to change your life. Good luck.

It took me a year, and I lost 50 pounds, this is what I did.
Excersise 3-5 days a week 30 min a day
Weight lift every second day

DO NOT EAT/DRINK THE FOLLOWING:
Pop or Juice
Pizza (if you must have a slice, order multigrain dough)
High fat foods
Chips

DO EAT THE FOLLOWING
Veggetables & Fruit
Meat (lots)
Water, 3-6 cups a day
Milk. 2-3 cups a day
Ice cream & yogurt (in good portion)
Carbs- you do not have to cut out carbs, but you should ALWAYS choose whole wheat bread over white.

TIPS:
1. Try cutting down your calorie intake gradually, until you eat less.
2. Eat in smaller meals, instead of large ones
3. For snacks at night (instead of chips, etc..) eat : popcorn or fruits & veggies
4. Every time you eat, put your meal on a small plate, that way
you are required to eat a smaller portion.

What about desserts like cake, cookies, etc...?
You do not need to cut them out completely, but
you should have them a bit or else you'll start to get cravings. Start with 1 small dessert a day (i.e. 1 cookie) then cut it down to 1 dessert a week.

This works wonders if you follow all my suggestions.

You are not alone in your struggle. Many women face the same challenges as you are facing now.

I recommend, seeing a nutritionist for help with meal planning and advice. Do this in conjunction with your doctor. I would avoid scams like herbalife, appetite suppressants and fasting, as these can all affect your body adversely.

I've found that when I had some one to trust and help me along I lost weight and was able to keep focused better. I went walking with a friend, and my roommates were always there to help me with what I ate and to encourage me with my food choices.

I was 17, 240 pounds, and 5 feet 4. My mom ordered me TurboJam and it has worked wonderfully. Yes, it is exersizing but....It's absolutely fun and before TurboJam, my idea of fun was sitting on the couch with a bag of Doritos.

I ate what I wanted, I just cut back on the junk food and I seriously am down to 160. If you have bad knees, it does low impact moves too.

I promise you if you want to lose weight, TurboJam has really helped me.

If you're serious, try Ebay.

I eat constantly! The only thing that seems to work for me is exercise. I don't know why it works, but it does. The worst part is that I hate to exercise.

The next thing is that carbohydrates will fuel an appetite. Go easy on the sugars, pasta, potatoes, and white rice. The more of that stuff you eat, the hungrier you are.

Good luck, my fellow Carbo Queen!

You need to consult a registered dietitian in your area to find a lifestyle that works for you. It is also important to embrace a lifestyle change including healthy eating and regular physical activity rather than "going on a diet" - this will not work in the long term. Check out some credible websites. (I am a registered dietitian)

Try finding an exercise partner. Maybe you can find someone with a little one too and you can walk them in their strollers. Having someone to encourage you and share the same goals can really help. Once you start feeling better w/ exercising, you will naturally want to eat better to keep up that "good feeling" GOOD LUCK!!!!
