Boba, also known as black pearls or tapioca balls, is derived from the starch of the cassava root. When cooked perfectly, the Boba becomes a sweet chewy ball with a gummy-bear like texture about 1/4 of an inch in diameter.
Boba can be added to any drink: milk tea, smoothies, juice and coffee. Boba tea, or more commonly known as Bubble Tea, is usually a sweetened tea with a layer of dark round tapioca balls at the bottom.
As you sip your drink, these "mysterious marbles" travel up the specially wide straw. The texture, taste and chewy sensation makes you want more!

boba is the term for tapioca balls that are served in a smoothie or milk tea drink. it is simply for chewing pleasure only. many places refer to the drinks a "pearl teas".

they come in different sizes... from small (small than a pencil eraser) to large (a little bigger than a pea). the boba is boiled and coated with some sugar (to prevent it from sticking) and placed at the bottom of the drink.

i don't know where you are located, but in california there are franchises such as tapioca express, fantasia, bobalicious and q-cup to name a few.

definitely try it! if you like peach... try a peach/mango pearl tea. yum!

Boba can refer to:

Another name for the tapioca found at the bottom of bubble tea. Its literal meaning is "Ball Explosion". Though it is also slang for "big breast / nipple" as the tapioca balls resemble a mothers nipple.
The obsolete Italian word boba means literally “stupid.”
