Let's say someone found a piece of wood buried in the desert and through a lot of tests it was proven undeniably part of the cross Jesus was crucified on... assuming they auctioned said piece, how much would you pay for it?

Whilst it has historical value, I can't see any other value in it and would suggest that it be given to a museum, it after all, just a piece of wood.

Jesus did not die on a cross. He died on a pole, or a stake. The Greek word translated "cross" in many Bibles meant just one piece of timber. The symbol of the cross comes from ancient false religions. The cross was not used or worshiped by the early Christians. Therefore, do you think it would be right to use a cross in worship?—Deuteronomy 7:26; 1 Corinthians 10:14.

7. It may be very hard to abandon some of these beliefs and customs. Relatives and friends may try to convince you not to change your beliefs. But pleasing God is more important than pleasing men.—Proverbs 29:25; Matthew 10:36, 37.

The value of the cross on which Jesus was crucified has nothing to do with the piece of wood. It has everything to do with accepting the grace of God through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus as made on the cross. Therefore, I would be enormously fascinated with it, it has no intrinsic value for me. May God bless and keep you.

I don't even want a gold cross chain cause I think it's really wack to be flashing a crucified man on my neck. Can you imagine wearing a gold symbol of a hanged man from slavery days? No thanx, i'll pass. (Love my Jesus though!)

As much as I could, I would probably give up everything I have (in the way of possessions) to buy it. Not because I care about Jesus or anything, but because I know it would be worth a fortune. Worth even more then moon rocks.

it would be a hard thing to prove... crosses were reused for crusifixion. so there would be a lot of tests goin on with that little piece of wood! lol I dont think I would pay anything. Knowing Him personally is better than owning a splinter.

For another thing, if your Mother was murdered by .356 Magnum, would you LOVE to own it, so that you could wear it on a chain about your neck? If Jesus means SO MUCH to you, why in the world you WANT a piece of the THING that caused him SO MUCH SUFFERING? I would distance myself from it, not get closer! With FAITH you draw closer, not WITH OBJECTS.

I agree with the person that said "Knowing Him personally is better than owning a splinter. "

However, if in fact by some feat of science a portion of the "stake" from which the Lord was hung was found, I would think that it would belong in a musem so that all persons could enjoy it.

None, because the cross is just a symbol and I already own Jesus' cross in my heart. The cross represents salvation, forgiveness and repentance. It'd be awesome though. Jesus wants us to wear the cross to symbolize Him not as an idol.

I would not bid on it. I could not bare the thought of thinking of him suffering all over. Jesus is alive today. Why buy a piece of wood that is not alive.
