It pisses me off. Just because you're visually impared doesn't make you less of a person, or a "dork". I have to wear glasses, I never had a choice. If I could I would get lasik surgery, But the doctor says that I have to wait til I'm 22 years old. And contact lenses are WAY too expensive. My whole personality does not fit the "nerd" stereotype, people just look at what I'm forced to wear on my face and judge me.

Oh my god, yea ain't it. I know exactly what you mean, people take the piss big time, and they don't seem to understand that we haven't got a choice, i mean if we want to be able to see properly we have got to wear glasses or for the fortunate ones who can afford it wear contact lenses. But i do understand exactly how you feel and there are some very very sensitive people out there that would most probably get quite hurt from the insults etc etc that people shout at you just because you wear glasses.
It really is ridiculous and i think that people who do actually swear abuse etc at us who have to wear glasses obviously have nothing better to do with there time, and some people do actually look better with glasses anyway.

It's very simple really, those that attempt to put you down do so not because they want to put you down but because doing so makes them believe or 'feel' superior. Even if that is the exact opposite of what is really happening. Take for instance the stereotype of bald men, often depicted as somewhat contrived and generally speaking 'less' than his counterpart with a full head of hair. The reality is that baldness is a relatively recent evolutionary development (people 50,000 years ago were not bald) and has not settled yet in all of humanity, although it is expanding fast. Anyways, baldness is a sign of being in an advanced evolutionary state, however, these men are often portrayed as less, because it makes those that still encumbered by furry heads 'feel' better.

The same can be said about the 'square' jaw, an evolutionary leftover from our animal like ancestors, the low forehead (small brains) etc.

Lots of people wear glasses. Why do you think you are being stereotyped? Sounds like reverse prejudice to me. Poor me, I wear glasses. You need to get a life. You can't blame your problems on glasses.

Contact lenses can run you from 14.99 to about 60, 70 dollars. The Lasik can run you up to 5,000 dollars or more and in the end might not be able to cure you completely and can leave you blind.

Get some rocking glasses.

PS I assume you're female. As am I, but I have to say that I find men with glasses to be really hot.

Nerd isn't a bad thing ; but it's how you portray yourself that people react to. Nobody looks down on glasses anymore .
