I was taught by an Ojibwa grandmother.. in her eyes, even though my family 'roots' do not come from this country, I am second generation born here.. in her eyes, I am Native American.. I was born here, I have the spirit of those who walked before me.. and I honor those that have gone before me - those present - and those yet to come.. My grandparents came here legally, had to endure all the legal red tape.. they cared enough for this country to learn it's language, even though they spoke broken English.. they tried! They honored the flag, honored the words of the pledge of allegiance, and had no wish to change this country to suit their desires.. yet held to their family traditions..
People do not wish to understand the word LEGAL.. as it implies someone is going against that for which we stand.. It implies that many will have to do quite a bit of soul searching.. and admit they're wrong.
How I wish people would enter my country LEGALLY.. and not try to change it.

I ask myself that same question more than once... everyday.
I think your first answer ('67 VETTE) has the right idea. "Most don't think it's illegal till they're cought" Either that, or they don't want to accept it.
I am for sure, positive that the pro-illegal party of this forum knows by far what an illegal is. I think they are trying to justify their situation to make it look like being an, "illegal" or doing something, "illegal" is really not that bad.
...And it may not be. But the point here, is that it's NOT legal, so it just so happens to be breaking the law. They ask us if we speed, etc...(By the way, it is bad that they're here illegally).
Of course we speed-- but when we're cought, we go down for it. Just 'cus we speed and we're not cought does not simplify our act to be legal. Yes, we just broke the law by speeding-- fortunately we weren't cought.
And.. so 12 million (I'm sure much much more) right now are saying the same thing --fortunately we weren't cought-- at least not this time.
I am persuaded by my instincts, the pro-illegal organization here on the forum of Answers, knows more than well, what the term's definition stands for.
As for some idiots-- because I frequently find many here. I wonder if they really know what ILLEGAL means. --All in all, it's not rocket science, and infact, a 4 year old knows right from wrong; as I'm sure the idiots do too.
Just like, everyday, I ask myself, why is putting a front door on my house a racist movement? Why is locking my car being racist?
It doesn't make any sense. They have no logical explanation to support their angle. When pro's see this, they shout out the only thing, or conclude to the closest thing that may relate to bigotry-- which is being racist.
You should start feeling like me. Usually when they start name calling, you know they have understood your point... and they are left with nothing valuable to fight back with.
I take the racist accusations as compliments for a job well done.
--Rob :)

First of all the ORIGINAL immigrants came in 1492 before any laws were here!
They were just people looking for another home to live and worship freely, but they did not like the fact that some NATIVES lived here and had our own ways to worship.
THAT is what they did wrong...was to come here and start making laws up and taking My people out of their homes and moving them around the country...
So in the beginning there were no LAWS about immagreints...
According to the source, The Source: A Guidebook of American Genealogy by Kory L. Meyerink and Loretto Dennis Szucs, the following were the countries of origin for new arrivals coming to the United States before 1790. The regions marked * were part of Great Britain. The ancestry of the 3.9 million population in 1790 has been estimated by various sources by sampling last names in the 1790 census and assigning them a country of origin. The Irish in the 1790 census were mostly Scots Irish. The French were mostly Huguenots. The total U.S. Catholic population in 1790 was probably less than 5%. The Indian population inside the territorial U.S. 1790 boundaries was less than 100,000.
SO BEFORE 1790 the people who came here were not ILLIGALS...They were relocating to this country and the INDIANS did not have LAWS against them being here. They did not fight them then.
The Indians did not stop the IMMIGRATION the settlers made those laws!
So if the Indians had stood up and said, 'OH, WELL IT WAS REALLY NICE YOU ALL CAME FOR DINNER AND ALL BUT TIME TO GO HOME NOW'...
we would not be where we are today!
OVER POPULATED!

people will only heard and believe what they want.... they pretend that the word illegal is not placed before the immigrant....so it is ok.... there is a big difference b/w illegal and legal.... and being up native americans and the europeans who came here 200 yrs ago is not a good comparison.... things changed, borders have been placed, laws implimated..... we have groups, organizations which handle these things now.... we are no longer barbarians.... get over it is what i say.... things change..... but on that tone.... we now have laws we have to obey now to keep those changes in place.... this is y we can't have illegals just running across the border and taking over what people work so hard for....

There is too much money being made off of them, for the problem to really be taken seriously. My relatives came here legally, and I normally would expect others to do the same.
The government will only talk about the issue, not do anything about it.
And for those that use the native American card are just plain stupid.

Actually, I think they do understand what it means, but they want to twist words and meanings to suit them. They can act stupid, but it will make people think they're right. "Native Americans" also immigrated here thousands of years ago from Asia. The English CONQUERED America, so now it is theirs. We welcome all law-abiding legal immigrants, and this country IS built on immigrants. Like I said, pro-illegals just twist the words and sentences so it would make them sound right. Ignorant, isn't it?

Just put a giant WAL*MART at the Mexico border so every illegal can go in the back door all the legals in the front door and have only one cashier working.

Because way back when our ancestors came, there were no immigration laws, or they were more accepting (depending when your relatives migrated) We understand illegal, we just agree that things need to be changed in order to make our country better. We need to let more immigrants have the chance to come legally! The ones that come illegally are the ones that would not qualify for legal immigration due to income, mostly.

They hope if they don't pay attention to that word, it will sort of melt out of popular use, like the 'h' in honor.
Unfortunately, it is the word that defines the problem, so that isn't going to happen.
