It's soda to me too, but I live in Canada now so if I ask for soda I get baking soda. It's funny the first time but gets wearing. I now just call it pop so I can skip all the funny crap.

I´m from Boston and the only people I know who say "tonic" are at least 60 years old. I call it "soda", I´ve heard people call it "soda pop". I only call the dark stuff "cola".

Depends on what region you're from. My dad called it pop, my mom called it soda, and so do I. *shrug* A lot of people around here just refer to all soda as coke, though, whether it's Pepsi or Mt. Dew or what-have-you.
