The usuals:
The bake sale (but only reaches students)
Candy bars - easy to manage
Wrapping paper- also easy to manage.
Car wash- need a good location but can work well.

Other ideas- focus on clear value for buyer:
Tie with local pizza place and get $X from each Pizza for a certain period and provide coupons as extra incentive. Find out their slow nights and focus on those if they won't leave it open end.
Tie with local restaurant- sell gift cards at a discount- good for them, the buyer and you. Perhaps get a $10 card for $5.
Concert at public location- collect tips- use mall, major department store
Silent auction at local mall: get retailers, friends and family to donate items and set up at mall or other busy location for set time.

I'm in a high school marching band and these are some fundraisers we've done that made a lot of money.
-Have a yard sale. Tell everyone in your band bring things that they need to get rid of.
-Have a car wash
-Ask businesses to sponser you
-Sell candy or soda or any kind of food

My school district had a thing called Tag days in the fall. The different High Schools would send out memebers of their marching bands orchestras bands etc... and local businesses would allow them to stand outside of the stores with donation cans. The bands would give away tickets to an upcoming perfomance. We raised a lot of money doing that. You could also do a pop can drive. You put out flyers to local neighborhoods and notify them that your marching band will be picking up cans on a certain day of the week and that if they have any to donate to leave them on their porch. Collect them if they are left out, and if they are not, you can still knock on doors and ask if anyone has any donations. I hope that helps!!

Candle Cane Lane has helped our band for 4 years now. They offer free shipping to school organizations. We have a band of 75 and make over $6000 profit in a two week fundraiser. Their product is excellent and they ship really quick.

My children in their bands always sold candy, candles, fireworks (at 4th of July time), and they did one or two fully catered meals a year that were pre-ordered and delivered on the day, for example Super Bowl Sunday meals. They were usually like tri-tip or some other really nice meal that the parents/band members got together and prepared and packaged up with pre-sale orders and then everyone got together and delivered them. We always made good money for the band =) There are always local businesses who can make up discount cards you can sell, for example 10 car washes for half off, or no-bake pizza cards too. Blessings for a successful year =)

i always noticed that candy always worked best, even though you're not allowed to eat in class, everyone's always looking for something to buy. You can also try having a movie night in the auditorium, play a dvd, offer people popcorn and a drink. If you can get some faculty to participate, our school had a faculty fear factor. You can set up different challenges and ask the students to nominate the teachers they want to see at the show. Good luck!

My band always went door to door selling pizzas three or four times a year. We'd build them and box them in the morning, then sell them all afternoon. All people had to do was pop them in the oven. We also sold candy, parked cars at our county fair, had a bowlathon, a carwash, a spaghetti dinner, and a Chinese Auction, which always made a ton of money.

There is a pizza kit available only as fund raisers called Joe Corbi's. These are great 'do it yourself' pizza kits and have generated alot of revenue for my scouts and soccer teams. I highly recomend you take a look!

Here at my employer, we have Joe Corbi pizza fans who LOOK FOR someone doing these as a fund raiser! Incidentally, they do more than pizza... someone I work with likes their cookie dough, but I'm still a big fan of their sausage pizza kits.
