I would advise you to get a job in a small local charity that is struggling to survive, then your efforts will be appreciated. The big charities are really big business organisations, they have high salaried people at the top,& mugs at the bottom working for free.Last year, one of the big charities gave a departing boss £ 147,000 as a 'golden goodbye' at the same time as they had a tv advert aslking for £2 a month from the public.A hell of a lot of those £2 donations went into the back pocket of that boss.

Lots of charities advertise for volunteers in either The Guardian on a Weds (the society supplement) or in Community Care Magazine. Both these are on the web too.

You can't get a job with a charity, that's why they are charities. (I'm talking about honest, non-for-profit charities. There are plenty of fake charities out there who only donate like 10% of their profit)
You can still volunteer though. Just find someone who runs a charity and ask if you can volunteer.

By volunteering. You may get some allowance paid to start with.
Once you are in their system you may be considered for a regular job with pay.

As well as the volounteering stuff, send your CV to them and tell them you want to work for them as you care for the cause.
Charities tend to advertise in either the Job Centre or the Broadsheet newspapers. Keep watching them.
