i always thought that long haired cats shed less..........maybe it;s just less gets up my nose!

It really depends upon the cat. I've lived around all kinds of cats my entire life. Health, weather, living conditions, environment, stress level, number of cats in the household, all play an important part on how much shedding is done. Like most have said, longer hair is noticed more. My mom used too vacuum our long hairs, and they loved it. I've never been able to get mine to do it. Try brushing them with a hair brush that is theirs alone; don't use it after they have. This will take out a lot of loose hair. Don't keep doing it hoping to get it all out, or you'll be there forever. For some reason they never seem to run out.

Some long-haired cats shed more than others. Besides the differences between breeds, some particular cats may shed more if they have any kind of skin condition. Also, some breeds of cats have a thicker undercoat which seems to shed endlessly. Each time you brush your cat, do you wind up with enough fur to knit another cat?

Long and short haired cats shed about the same. Try getting a dogs 'shedding" comb it really helps my boys get rid of excess hair. Take them outside for a brush then watch the birds swoop down to pick up the fuzz to line their nests!

I think short hair cats shed less, but I could be wrong, could be they shed about the same but long haired is more noticable.

I believe that it all depends on the breed but if you have a cat thats shedding excessively and are concerned take her to the vet for a check-up/blood test. Excessive shedding could be a sign of something missing in their diet that's causing it.

They shed the same number of hairs, generally, but the longer haired cats shed longer hairs, and THESE hairs are more visible.

All cats shed about the same. you just notice long haired cats fur more because it's longer

No they dont actually shed more. They shed about the same its just more noticable with longerhaired cats and looks more coz the hairs longer

I think my shorthair sheds more than my two long hairs put together.

I think they all shed the same just easier to see the long hairs,so you notice them more.
