That sounds great but if you have to drive to get to work kids to school ext how do you cut down on gas. I mean they kinda have us over a barrel they know we have to use the gas and can't get by with not buying it so we are kinda screwed. My husband was driving an 8 cylinder ford pickup we traded it in for a Pontiac grand am so we didn't have to spend as much on gas, so that helps a bit I guess but most people can't run out and trade it fuel guzzlers either. So yep they have us over a barrel.

They will drop prices or they will find a way to manipulate the markets so that oil prices will rise and they can keep prices high. The only way to beat big oil is to find something that can compete and win ie Ethanol, Biodiesel, Methanol, etc.

it is a supply and demand problem, oil is subject to seasonal changes in its formulation, so the refinery has to taylor the amount refined to the amount expected sold. then the oil futures speculators set the prices of various oil products. who are the speculators? it's you, and me, and anyone who buys an oil futures contract on the stock market. as for the auto makers, they will slow production, and lay off workers. what did you expect?

For a while the price of gasoline would go way up. They have to make a profit. Then I think they would look into alternative ways of getting our money.

It would have been great if we could do that for our own sake without worrying for the oil companies. However there seems little chance for that in the near future.

no, automobiles only use 20% of the oil. the other 80% is used to generate electricity, so we can't really cut our use very much
