How can Jesus have gone to the America's after his resurrection when
1) the america's had not been discovered yet?
2)he was resurrected 3 days after the crucifixion and said IN THE BIBLE that
Acts 1:9
'And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.'
'And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel;
'which also said, ye men of Galilee, why stadn ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

And he will not return to earth until he comes back for his people. He has left the Holy Spirit with us to guide us.

Easy:

1) There were people living in the Americas long before the white Europeans "discovered" them. You know, those folks Columbus decided to call "indians." Of course they weren't called the Americas at the time, the only places you'll find the word "Americas" in the Book of Mormon is in the Index, or footnotes or other modern study guide aids.

2) Jesus' visit was after his ascension into heaven that you described here. He stayed long enough to establish His Church, and then left them to be guided by the Holy Ghost, and revelation. We still look forward to the great 2nd coming, where Christ will come down and reign personally upon the earth, this we see as just a visit, He did, after all, visit His apostles in Jerusalem after His ascension (think of Saul when His name was changed to Paul).

Good question - Best Wishes!

First of all, America hadn't been discovered by Europeans yet, but you will recall that is was populated with great civilizations when they arrived in 1492. Which means there could very well have been many people here in the Americas at the time of his death in A.D. 34.

Second, you have to take into accound this scripture as well: John 10:16

16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Hmm, "the America's had not been discovered yet." This reminds me of a question we used to ask as kids, "What was the largest island in the world before Australia was discovered?" The answer is Australia. Just because it hadn't been discovered didn't mean it wasn't there! Likewise Just because the America's hadn't been discovered (I assume you mean by Colombus), doesn't mean that it wasn't there before 1492. There were people living on the American continent long before Columbus, and long before Christ was born in Bethlehem.
The passage in Acts 1 that you use refers to the acsension of Christ into heaven and refers to the coming of Christ in the end times. It does not say that he will never return again in to speak to mankind, such as he did when he visited Paul in Acts 9.

Let me try and help you. The Mormon church teaches that a man names Lehi, who was and Israelite before the exile, spoke out against the sins of Israel and was not listened to. Him and his family got into a boat and came over to the America's. This would have been around 586 B.C., the time of the Babylonian exile. Admist this, ther was much fighting between the different tribes which formed and after a span of time in which the had lost the faith. Jesus came to teach them and also share his coming with them, as they were God's protected people. Also, after Jesus was resurrected he came and ministered to the disciples for 40 days then went up, he went to teach them in the americas after his ascension into heaven.

I am definately not a Mormon, I study religions, and am an evangelical christian, I have not looked over my notes in a while. I have many resources on this subject if you email me a josh43299@yahoo.com

John 10:16 "Other sheep have I which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice: and there shall be one fold and one shepard."

We believe that God is all powerful, all knowing and that his blessings are for all people regardless of where they live. We believe that Jesus Christ came to the American Continent if fulfillment of his promises. In the Book of Mormon, his visit is recorded in 3 Nephi 11 (pg 427). In this chapter, and in the following chapters you can read how Jesus Christ organized his Church with apostles and prophets just as he did in the Holy Land.

Yes, I am a Mormon.

America's had not been discovered by who? the Europeans? that does not mean it did not exist. Just because something isn't discovered by you or your ancestors it still exists. And people have been in the America's as long as the rest of the world.

Read John 10:16 "Other sheep have I which are not of this fold: them also must I bring, and they shall hear my voice: and there shall be one fold and one shepard."

I think East of Eden did a great job...

And for the person wondering who her Mormon cousin would be married to...were any of those marriages in the temple? If not, then none...

Let me ask you this...do you believe God would abandon his people if they moved to a new continent? Just because those people were not living in Jerusalem area must mean they weren't entitled to hear the gospel also or have their history recorded? (which esentially is the Book of Mormon) I think not. The Bible is the history of people and the Book of Mormon is another, it says it right on the book!

Frog, I should probably pose this a separate question of my own, but I felt compelled to second your inquisition of Mormonism. I would sincerely like to hear from an LDS member regarding their teachings on being married in Heaven, when the Holy Bible clearly states ".... there will be none married nor given in marriage". Also, my cousin, who is Mormon, has been married three times, which one will be her husband there? Further, the Bible says to not ..."add to, or take away, from the Word", yet Mormonism relies more heavily on their own "Doctrines and Covenant" than God's own infallible, inerrant, inspired Word. If our Heavenly Father saw that one book of His original teachings was enough, how dare Joseph Smith insinuate otherwise? Thank you sincerely.

I'm not Mormon, but your first question is false. Americas had been discovered by the natives long before Jesus walked the earth.. Therefore, your whole question is null. Oh, and STOP PREACHING GARBAGE UNTIL YOU LEARN HISTORY!!!

This story was started by one John Smith(no pun intended). There is no proof that Jesus Or God was in the Americas except for the golden tablets that is secreted away.John Smith reportedly found these tablets that are so valuable that no one has ever had the privilege to see.Once those tablets are revealed I MIGHT revise my opinion of mormon. At this stage I classify him as a false prophet in the league of Mohamed Mustafa the author of the koran.
