I have been paying off a debt to Lombard via Wescot. I've paid my instalments on time, but despite sending letters recorded delivery, they won't send me a balance. I don't want to phone 'cos I've heard they are really mean?!

With most debt collection companies when you call them and confirm data protection they usually tell you the balance over the phone, then ask if you want to make payment today.

There is no reason for them to be mean, I can understand why they would be if you have a £10.000 debt for example and you are only paying £1.00 a month as they are working on commision and they see a financial statement of your and you are spending like £300.00 a month on food and you are single for example! As long as you keep payments up to date and increase the installment amount every six months to them, they should be fine. I think it depends on who you speak to... if they are having a good day they are usually lenient. I am usually lenient with people who, to me, dont seem to take the p*ss and acknowledge that the balance has to be paid.

Some credit companies, for some strange reason, wont give the balance over the phone, only want to send you a reduced settlement letter in the post.

What you have to understand is that you are an adult you have spent the money you owe and now they want there money back. They are entitled to ask for this especially if it has gone all the way to Wescot who are one of the top 3 debt collection sgency in the country.

Phone them and speak to them, the longer you leave it the worst it will be. Be prepared for them to ask for the money back in full, their customer (who is not you but the company you owe the money to) is entitled to have this money back in full, you signed a contract with them.

You will need to supply proof that you can not do that. Once you have done this you should be able to set up a payment plan with them.

I hope this helps

Had the same experience and never did get a balance statement from them - ensure that your Credit Rating doesn't show a continued OSD.

Just give them a call. If you have made all your payments on time they have no need to be mean to you. Just ask for your balance wait for them to tell you and then just say thanks and bye. If they are extremely rude to you take their name and make a complaint !!

Phone them, you have every right to ask for a balance when you are making payments to them.
