Word & Excel are part of your Windows set-up, if you turn off your modem they'll still work fine. You've probably just got clutter, try Tools, Internet Options and under Temporary Internet Files click Delete Files. If that doesn't work try Start, Programmes, Accessories, System Tools then Disc Clean up. Run your Virus, Spyware scan aswell to be sure.

like the other answer, internet explorer is full of bugs,it took me 3 years to figure this out,and i now use mozzila firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/),and havent had a single problem, also the connection is faster and the download manager is great,a brilliant way to keep tracks of your downloads
the reason for the problem with internet explorer is hackers find it much easier to hack it,and also more people use it making it a better area to hack, there are also more holes in the browser which microsoft try to patch but hackers just find another way
also try using netscape(http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/),this is based on the same code as firefox, and has some good plug-ins
excel and word will work fine because its using a different program to run them
solution........switch browser recommend firefox
good luck

Had a simular problem just a week ago it had to do with Video acceleration Ive changed my Video card. Now it's ok. But first check go desktop right click then click on "settings" choose"advanced" click on depending on your systemsOP "trouble shooting""hardware acceleration)"
There is a slide move it back a few notches if then your problem improves it has to do with your VideoCard.
Take care

Because internet explorer is unstable and into too many bugs, try firefox, it doesn't crash nearly as much
