I have two parakeets that are less than two years old. I'm thinking about getting a kitten. If I introduce the kitten to the birds carefully, do you think the kitten will grow accustomed to having birds in the house and won't try to attack them? I live in an apartment and don't have enough room to keep the birds and kitten in separate rooms. Has anyone had luck raising a gentle kitten with birds in the house?

My friend has 6 parakeets and a cat. They got the cat so young, that now that it is full grown, it totally ignores the birds. I just got a kitten and i already had a hamster. I introduces them and the cat is still curious, but he has simmered down some and does not jump on the cage any more. I let the hamster run around my apartment (while i watch him) and the cat plays nice. So go get your kitty and enjoy. Cats are the best. I love them.

Funny, I had a cat and a parakeet. The cat was afraid of the parakeet!! I would let the bird fly around and he would attack the cat.

It can be done. . but don't be fooled. It is in the nature of the cat to hunt, whether its an inside or outside. You will have to keep an eye on them both. Good Luck.
