whatever you decide read up on it. There is one book titled Dear Birthmother. I placed a child for adoption, almost 15 years ago. Open adoption has been a mixed blessing. Knowing info, but can't change anything. There are a lot of things to consider. A big thing to consider, how will you feel if that child wants to meet a birth parent? I'm glad I know how my daughter is, but it hurts not being able to give her my advice.I am not adopted though, so I can only give you my insight, briefly. Semi- may be good as far as med. history etc.

My wife and I are in the process of adopting domestically. We are going through the county. This is a very different situation, we may or may not be in contact with birth parents as we do a foster to adopt. We have just been licensed and have not been placed yet but we decided that the most we would ever do is send pictures and updates. The birth parents can never have contact with our child, it would only create issues. We would prefer closed only because we would want our child to have a normal of life as possible.
Hope this helps
Your my hero for choosing to adopt.
Good Luck
