I just found out that I'm being awarded financial aid for this fall semester at a community college which will cover all my tuition and books and most of my living expenses. However, when I transfer in January to a University, my financial aid package doesn't change, even though the cost of tuition has almost doubled. It will award me 5,975 for a semester, but the cost of attendance (tuition, books, room and board) at the University is at a minimum 6,775. Then, on top of that, that leaves me no residual funds for summer and I still have to have a place to live for the summer as well, since I'm moving into a dorm. I'm doing this all on my own. I have no family or friends here that I can stay with over the summer. I HAVE to be able to stay on campus, but the financial aid money isn't enough. What do I do?

The award you received at the J.C. does not apply to the 4 year. Each school awards you according to the need that they calculate for you. Be certain to include the other school code on your aid application.I experienced the same situation. The cost ofJ.c.'s are substantial lower than 4 years.Stay on top of things contact both financial aid office to make them aware of your plans. Be certain to get your final transcript to the 4 yr on time

How did you support yourself between the last January and now?

Did you file FAFSA?
Did you request SAR to be sent to the new college?
Can you claim as Independent Student? The definition for Independent student is on FAFSA site.
Have you talked to the Financial Aid people in new college? They are very resourceful.

If you are going to take loan, make sure the term is read carefully.

Well most universities have an appeal process that allows your financial aid to be reconsidered. Check with your prospective school's financial aid office for more information on this process. At worst, you will have to resort to private loans. Citiassist is a personal favorite. If you are not credit worthy, you will need a credit worthy co-signer. This can be accessed at www.citiassist.com. Another one is Key loans www.key.com/educate/alternative. I hope this helps!

I'm a little bit of in the same situation is u. All I can say is save up. You have a job? Maybe if u find some part of a job it may help.
There is always a little bit of help with yard sales. have anything you dont care for and are willing to give up. Maybe u should try to get in connect with some friends and family and tell them how important it is. Good Luck

Well your first option is Student Loans, but if you are like me and your credit sucks then that pretty much leaves that choice out.

However there are well over 10,000 scholarships available out there and not all of them are based on academic performance or achievement. There are scholarships based on income level, major, activities, essay based, and many other things. Apply for everything possible and odds are you'll rack up pretty good because there are millions of dollars worth of scholarships each year not taken advantage of and wasted.

Good Luck

I'm so tired of reading these sad stories. "I'm so lazy I don't' want to work how do I get money, it's not fair, no one loves me, I'm all by myself."

OK this is how life works. Your born with nothing.

You decide to work and better yourself or not.

You decide to live within your means or you decide to spend that which you have not earned.

I worked my way thorough school and don't owe anyone a thing, well that's not true I do have a small home loan.

search for scholarships to help you out, there are many kinds, some require good grades and low socio-economic status others want you to write an essay that receive awards that go to fund college. you can go to your counselor and ask him for browsers for many of these organizations, find some that are good for you and send in an application.
