Iowa’s United States Congressman Steve King told a crowd in Des Moines in June, “Illegal aliens cause the death of 25 American citizens every day…13 by drunken driving and 12 by stabbings or gun fire.”
That daily figure adds up to 9,125 deaths annually caused primarily by illegal alien Mexicans residing in America. Mike Rosen, radio talk show host in Denver, said it wasn’t significant when you consider our country of 300 million. A listener corrected him, “It’s not significant unless it’s your father or family member who gets killed.” In the meantime, 630,000 convicted illegal alien felons or a full 29 percent of our prisons are loaded with criminal illegals. They cost us $1.6 billion annually to keep them in three squares a day, exercise rooms, food and TV. What astounds me stems from the fact that our president, vice president and entire society sits, watches, waits and says nothing at this ongoing violence against our citizens and are doing nothing ?I see no saints here do you?

To many people US citizens don't count or are expendable.Even some of our own people feel that way. Anything is better to them than to be seen as racist or indifferent to illegals' 'starving families'. And I realize we deal with our own criminals, but should that make it mandatory for us to deal with criminals who don't belong here? Nice question. Some people will never get it.

I'm prone to look skeptically at any figures given during a political speech. Especially the figure that 29% of the prisons are housing illegal immigrants. That just sounds too high to be realistic- they get deported. Not everyone who comes here is a criminal- many are migrant farm workers who pick the fields. This work isn't currently being done because of the crackdowns, and fruit is rotting in the vineyards and orchards all across the country. You'll feel that in the produce section of your grocery store later this fall. Lots of people come to work hard for a better life, but simply can't afford the bribes to get in "legally". In any group of people, you will find variation. Saints are rare, but so are demons. There's no reason to demonize such a large group of people.

Thank you very much for that. On top of your information, there is the fact that illegals are an extreme burden to the American healthcare system, to such an extent that many actual citizens do not receive benefits. The educational system is strained with a need for bilingual classes at all levels because the children of illegals do not generally speak English. Add to this the fact that Mexico's primary income as a nation is the money sent back there by the illegal workers and you have a servere drain on the economy.

Well think of all the people that are killed in Iraq by us citizen, in about three and a half years it is over 100,000. Compared to Saddam Hussein's 300,000 in 24 years we have him beat. Also consider the fact that over 42,000 people die a year in car crashes, most of them being Americans killing Americans. I have had three friends die in car crashes and it hurts whether the person who's responsible is illegal or not. Another thing to consider is the racism of the prison system. Why are mainly Latinos and African Americans locked away when there are more crimes committed by Anglo Americans? This us verses them mentality is very detrimental to the global community and leads to wars and senseless violence.

Nowhere does Steve King provide any sources for these purported "statistics" Moreover, if you contact his Washington office the only answer you’ll get is that his evidence purportedly came from “private conversations” with unidentified “persons” at the FBI, the DEA, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. How convenient! Self-serving “statistics” that exist nowhere in published form, and so can neither be double-checked nor corroborated. Such is the stuff of which irresponsible demagogues like Steve King are made!

Wow, that is more than three hundred percent of total US deaths in Iraq, and it happens every single year.

And the point is that these deaths are preventable, had we only enforced our laws.

Andy, illegal immigrants are disproportionately criminal. They make up 4 to 5% of our general population but are 25-30% of our general prison population, and I have seen that go up to as high as 50% in California.

This is a legitimate point.

Beardog - you may find it too high to be realistic, but you haven't looked into it, have you? Just take 20 minutes using your browser. Then get back to us.

This is, pardon the expression, nitwit science. How many people are killed by foreign tourists? Foreign diplomats? People who managed to get American citizenship when they didn't deserve it?

There is really very little to distinguish between undocumented aliens (some of whom, like the Tohono O'odom tribe, are of uncertain nationality because their reservation crosses the frontier -- and Congress hasn't bothered to act on a law that would give them the rights that Native American-First Canadian tribes get under the Jay Treaty) and American citizens by accident of birth to foreigners on American soil.

Why don't you just join the club to change the Constitution, wipe out the 14th Amendment, and deny citizenship to people who don't look like you?

It's not as if being foreign increased the likelihood of killing someone on the highway or of drinking.

And repressive laws that deny driving licenses to foreigners have the weird result of making them UNINSURED.

So: folks like you had better get uninsured motorist coverage.

But what do I care. I live in England, and European Union law says that all EU driving licenses must be honored, and that any car with foreign EU plates without insurance is covered by the State Insurance Fund (i.e., the motor insurance board) of the country whose plates (real or fake) are affixed to it.

Trouble is, Americans want to invent everything for themselves, and make foreigners "guilty" of everything they don't like or that happens to them. In the end, you shoot yourself in the foot. (Of course that raises a totally different, Second Amendment, issue. But I digress.)

Our Congress and our president.... and the president before him, are working against the American people.

Thanks for posting this info.... it is even worse than I had previously thought. It really is time to erradicate America of illegal aliens and past time to get the border closed.

9,125 deaths caused by terrorists is significant, even out of a billion... but that shows you how the left thinks.... individuals are not important, the masses are.... unless that individual liberal or one of his family happens to be one of the statistics. Look at how the liberals cry and moan over less than 2000 dead in Lebanon, and almost ignore the dead in Israel.... it is clear how liberals think, and that they do not think clearly.

Illegal aliens are terrorists, plain and simple. ALL illegal aliens are criminals, there is NO denying that FACT.

The issue is about illegal aliens, not Americans who reside here legally. It is about the damage illegal aliens do to our society.... those who try to side step the issue and take it off course, are against America. Crime by illegal aliens is not America's fault. I will lay blame on criminals who employ illegal aliens and on our President and Congress for their inaction regarding this invasion and the terrorizing results that ensue.

I think we sat on our hands and paid little attention to the illegal immigrant situation. Years later, we woke up and they were everywhere. To me this is the biggest social problem we have in America today. It is completely out of control.

Unfortunately, our government officials are treating this like a political hot potato. They are afraid if they take too hard of a stance, they will lose the vote of Hispanics across the country. The illegal immigrants are everywhere and are costing us billions in social welfare, medical and school services. You are right - there are no saints here - and our government officials are acting weak and cowardly.

I dont think you can lay the blame of those people's deaths on their employers. I could run out and shoot someone and the police are not going to look for my boss!
