It's funny, too, because they're so quick to rant about how Christians attack them. Yet, I fail to find questions by Christians that have the same rude and intolerant tone. And, while i'm sure they exist, they pale in comparison.

Why is this? Why are so many atheists so hateful and angry.

And don't tell me Christians cast the first stone. How juvenile would that be then? BTW - I don't really care what you do with your own life. Why do you care so much about what I do with mine?

I am an atheist, and I find this question insulting. You have generalized, saying that "so many atheists so hateful and angry", and I don't think that is true.

I see every atheist-bashing question here as a direct insult to me, just as you see every theist-bashing question as an insult to you. You can check, I have asked no theist bashing questions, and only give such responses when the question deserves it.

I am not angry and hateful, I just dislike being characterized as evil when no one here knows me.

I don't care what you do with our own life, but when Christians try to convert me, or tell me I am going to hell, or even when the Bible is quoted in Congress, I am offended. You may be the nicest person in the world, and yet you post a question that offends me as well. What was the point of posting it if not to offend people?

I find numerous questions by Christians that reflect rudeness and intolerance, and few by atheists, so I imagine we both see what we want to see. Have a good afternoon.

Christians cast the first stone. Juvenile or not, it's the real answer to your question.

Yah, I'm feeling the overwhelming love in the questions Christians direct at atheists.

If you really don't care what I do with my life, then repeal all the laws that have no legitimate secular purpose, stop trying to teach ID in public schools, stop trying to plaster the 10 commandments and the word "god" all over the public domain, stop waking me up Saturday morning asking me stupid religious questions, and stop dragging the rest of us into your religious wars.

It'd be a nice gesture to get all those stupid Jesus fish symbols and hell/rapture related bumper stickers off your cars too, but I'd settle for the former.

Clearly, you are bored and are out to 'cause trouble' on some little internet toy you found. Because no one in their right mind would write crap like this an mean it. At least, I really hope not.

Wouldn't a real christian be nice about all these 'stones'? Wouldn't a real christian handle this with grace?

The majority of negative posts/responses are fueled by people who have too much time on their hands and want to cause trouble. Rabble-rousers if you will. I'm sure you're well acquainted with the joy that brings.

So you ask a question, and then tell the rest of us that you won't accept any of the correct answers. This is simple narrow-mindedness. The fact of the matter is that Yahoo Answers is FULL of intolerant and rude questions and answers from Christians, many of them from your own keyboard. Christians are the source of the problem here, and your "question" is simply a lie.

Ah, but most Christians DO cast the first stone.
I was walking down the road the other day and was stopped by 3 people who started praising their religion to me, and when I told them I didnt believe, they attacked me with questions and hateful comments because I didnt "accept Jesus as my lord"

I really dont think that rude, intolerant christians pale in comparison to rude, intolerant atheists.

You're just Christian, so you refuse to accept the fact that they are all out there.

I don't personally care what either group does, Christians or non-Christians. What bothers me is that there are many in each group who are TOTALLY intolerant of any beliefs other than their own. I don't understand the need to name-call. And, I might point out that you're continuing this "trend" by posting this question that, once again, stirs things up. Nope...I'm not buying your "innocent" act.

I agree. I think that they are just reinforcing the belief we have about Atheists being on the wrong path. When you meet a Christian they are usually nice and understanding. Most of the Atheists seem to represent themselves as hateful, intolerant, arrogant people. With this type of representation it doesn't make it easy to take them seriously and makes the belief in God seem that much more attractive.

Our very existence is an insult to everything the theist holds dear. No matter how politely we say it, we are insulting the memory of all of your dead loved ones (who are NOT in a heaven... they are dead). We are threatening your perception of reality, and we are making you feel hopeless and lost.

We do this, because you are unwilling to accept reality. We are. There's no insult there. We didn't create reality. We just accept it. If you could learn to do the same, you would realize why we can only view people like yourself as insane. The facts disproving your religion are well known. You have simply decided to ignore them.

As long as you continue to do so, your opinion will not be respected by rational people.

That's a huge generalization.

Religion surrounds us, every day. Everyone is always talking about God and putting God on our money and God in our pledge and God in our politics. You'd get irritated, too, if EVERYWHERE you went you heard about, read about, and were told about something you DON'T THINK EXISTS.

Let's say, for a second, that in an imaginary world, there is a Goddess that everybody worships. You, as a believer in God, do not believe in this Goddess. You respect the right of others to believe, really, you do. But you just do not share that belief. But your money says "In the Goddess we trust" and everyone is always saying "Open your heart to the Goddess, and you'll be saved! The Goddess loves you!" and your president makes speeches and says "The Goddess is on our side! The Goddess has told me that we need to fight this war in the name of what is decent and holy, and we will fight the Goddess-less heathens and show them what we're really about!"

Don't you think you'd get a little agitated? You SAY that people are tolerant of atheists. But in reality, we have to put up with Christian dogma every day. I try really hard not to be angry and everything-- but if I was, could you really blame me?

To begin with, it's rude to generalise. We're not all the same. Then, I'll agree that SOME unbelievers (or some who claim they are unbelievers) do post aggravating questions. But will you also agree that sometimes you believers are too quick to take offense by anything we post and that doesn't just worship your beliefs? I mean, if you're going to be offended by anything that isn't "God's wonderful", there's little chance we are not going to upset you every time we open our mouths!
