Situs Inversus is a "disorder" where all of your organs are on the opposite side of the body from where they normally should be. This is important in a couple ways: If you have true situs inversus, and you get appendicitis (not more likely than anyone else, but can show up differently) it may cause pain in the lower LEFT of your stomach, not in the lower right as in other people, so you need to let the doctor know you have situs inversus.

There are a couple of causes of situs inversus, so you will want to talk to you doctor about the best guess of what caused yours.

Actually "jury doc," situs inversus refers to people who have all their organs on the opposite side. The term for people with just their heart on the wrong side have "dextrocardia." People with dextrocardia can either have "situs inversus," "situs solitus (abdominal organs in their normal position), or "situs ambiguous" which is where the abdominal organs are not clearly on one side or the other.

IT is when either the heart alone or the heart and other internal organs are on the opposite side (mirror image) of where they belong. If it is all of the organs, usually the individual can live a normal life with little or no complications. If it is just the heart, generally there are additional heart abnormalities and complications.

It is rare, only 1 in about 7000-8000, but you should be able to find support. Ask your doctor.
