I live on Vancouver Island! Work takes me through Cathedral Grove 1 or 2 times a month.

It is incredible. I would have to say, my favourite time to go through is just after Halloween. Everyone leaves their carved pumpkins in there. It's cool.

My favourite trip was my first. It was in winter and the trees were covered in snow. It was spectacular.

Not to take away from that, but I have seen larger trees in other BC coastal areas. Twice to 3 times the trunk girth. Not as accessible though.

Cathedral Grove has the largest trees in Canada. They're similar to the giant redwoods in California. As tacky as it may sound: it does actually feel like a church (albeit an overgrown one) when you're walking among the huge trees. These trees can reach up to 70m. The walk around this forest is very interesting and it's an excellent way to have a break on your way to/from Pacific Rim National Park.

Directions: Cathedral Grove is located west of Nanaimo, on the Road to Port Alberni and Pacific Rim.
