There are certain traits that separate modern humans from our primitive ancestors. Art, religion, and tools. Religion helps humans deal with the sting of the "curse of conscious man". The realization that we will die. Some people are okay with that and some people can't bear the concept of no longer existing. The greater the fear, the greater the need to feel safe. Nothing wrong with that, but not all people are afraid and that should be okay too. Not all atheists are anti-God. Some people are just more aggressive than others, Christian, atheist, agnostic, or otherwise. Every group has those types. Some people equate to believing in a God is equivalent to believing in a mystical creature like Santa Claus or unicorns. No matter how many people tell you they are real, it's hard for some people to give up logic over emotion.

I can only speak from my experience. There was a time when I was extremely upset with the suffering that I have seen and read about, the hatred that exists and what I felt were extreme injustices in the world.

I thought: Why would God create a world where all this existed and to damn most of its inhabitants to hell?

I was also really depressed over the death of a close friend.

However, if one really believe people that die go to a better place, than belief in God does make more sense.

PS Even if you do not believe this is a good question. It is important to understand why you do not believe.

Well, which "only one true God" are you talking about? The Muslims have their only one true God (see the second person above me for an example of this), the Jews have theirs, the Australian Aboriginals have theirs, the Buddhists have theirs, the Hindus have theirs, ect. All are just as justified in their beliefs as you are. All have ancient documentation to back up their beliefs (except the Aboriginals, but they have oral traditions that pre-date all the others), all have reasons for believing, and all think that you're the one who's got it wrong.

So which one true God are you talking about? Are you asking why people don't believe in your one true God? Why should they? Why don't you believe in theirs?

You cannot expect and insist that other believe and follow what you belive in, do you? There are others religions beside what you hold dear.
For example, I believe in God as the Chief or King among the citizenry in heaven (angels), just as we humans have kings and presidents of states, As to the one one true God, it may be possible that God himself does not know of the existences of other higher order of beings in the big trichilicosm, just as a king of a smaller island country may not know of the existence of another country outside his own. Of course we know this matter know, but the early cavemen would not. Would you agree that this is possible.

Sadly but true, because they simply choose not to. And God by all means has a great deal of respect for people. Created in his image, people are free to choose. And God is fine with that... Just like nobody can force their will on God, he doesn't force his will on people. You can live your whole life with cancer and deny you have it, but ultimatelly it kills you, and you don't get another chance to take care of your problem. He loves them even when they reject him, but after their life is over, they are at loss ultimatelly... And this aspect is called consequences. Sort of like don't do the crime if you don't wanna do the time.

many religions do believe in "the only one true god".
the problem you are having is that it is not necessarily your god.
your question should be: Why don't people believe in my God, the only one true God?

many reasons, tho i believe in a superior being (i.e. God) i dont believe in a specific religion. but as for the people who dont believe in God, it may have to do with bad experiences towards religions, or their way of thinking is more so ignorant (at least in my opinion) one way to look at it is if you look at a human eye and its complexity, ur saying that came from absolute nothing, that doesnt include the rest of the living body and many organisms on the planet. but believing in a certain religion i dont give credit to either, u cant prove whos right and whos wrong so therefore no religion is the absolute truth.
