Cell phone companies give caller ID for free. Why do land line companies charge up to $6 a month for the service? I remember when phone companies charged extra for touch tone service. Do you think caller ID will ever be free?

They charge because they can. Verizon is the worst for nickel and diming everyone to death.

I think this is because not everyone wants or cares to have caller ID. I know people who don't want it and like to live like they did 20 years ago. So the phone company can charge those who do want it and make extra money. Easy bucks.

Honestly if I was you, I would get a Cell phone instead! though it's not part of their facilities, (Land Line) but i think it's a very funny idea to charge for it. You can get a fixed wireless phone that could replace your landline. And the caller id is for free also... LOL Good luck

Because this is NOT a free service. If you don't want it, just cancel it.
