Ok so ''my cat'' gave birth to 6 kittens, and they have been here for about 2 maybe 3 weeks. The mother cat has just gone missing for about maybe 45 minutes I`ve tried everyhing and it seems that she isnt anywhere in our yard. (Note: she and the kittens live outside) So should i go and pick up some kitten formula at a pet store?? Or what should i do?? The kittens are crying it seems they are really hungry.

Thank You

If she doesn't come back, then yes get some formula but you'll also need a pet bottle.

I don't know about the rest of the world but where I live it costs about $60.00 to get a female spayed and if we are talking about 6 kittens and at least half are female, lets see about $240.00, not everyone is made of money.

It is not her fault that the cat had kittens, it is the cycle of life, at least she cares enough to reach out for help - Right!

I have four cats in my house (house cats), the males are neutered, the female is not, I live through her heats and I will deal with it my own way, there are two yard cats, strays, feral, toms, that I leave food for, I am not rich, not even close, but I have this huge bleeding heart when it comes to animals. I won't be taking the yard cats to the vet to be fixed, I didn't take them on, I am just helping them out by feeding them, maybe that is what she done.

Mam, I would bring the kittens in the house and put them in a box or basket and keep them warm. Feed stores, pet stores, I believe even Wal mart has replacement formula for kittens, don't use cow milk - if you have no choice but to use cow milk, dilute it with warm water, it will cause diarrhea. Purchase a kitten bottle and feed them, in another week they will be able to lap the formula from a bowl. They are still dependent on momma to stimulate them to use the bathroom, you have to do this, use a paper towel or wash cloth with warm water and wipe them until they do their business.

I apologize for the defensive behavior.
I practice and preach responsible pet ownership but there are always circumstances beyond our control, everything isn't always in a nice neat box.

If the kittens are 2 to 3 weeks old, they can go several hours without eating. The mother probably needed a break. Stay away from the kittens and watch from somewhere where she can't see you. Make sure that she has plenty of water near by. She may have gone for a drink!!

If I have been you i could basically anticipate some days and positioned indicators up. Our cat went lacking whilst we first have been given him and all of us theory that he had have been given out the door and could not at all come again yet some days later we observed that something replaced into ingesting the butter contained in the evening and then got here upon the cat under the sink (he's positive btw). i could additionally propose which you overlook in regards to the comments approximately no longer letting him outdoors because of the fact we enable our cat have the alternative because an early age and he's now an quite chuffed and lively elderly pussycat. i do no longer think of the pussycat did something to him and it would have been in hassle-free terms a accident that the noise befell at that element. solid success finding your kitten, do no longer provide up

I'd give the cat a couple of hours to return. It she doesn't, then I would grab some kitten formula and put it out there and see if they'll eat it. She may be out prowling for a prospective "stepdad"!

I would wait a tiny bit longer to see if the mother comes back it could just be (if she is not used to people she doesn't want to come while you are there) but after another 15 minutes I would call your vet for advice.

Won't hurt to get the supplies even if you don't need them. Hopefully she's just wandering and will be back, just needed a break from the kids. If you get the supplies and don't need them you can always return them.

I would go and get some. If you don't have to use it it probably can be returned if you keep the sales slip.

Then you have it on hand when or if she does a bunk again.

If the cat doesn't show up in one hour, I would go pick up some formula for them. Please don't let them starve.
