the flag is folded neatly 13 times at the burial for servicemen/women. i have heard that each fold represents something or has a specific meaning. could someone please let us know!

Check the source for the steps and reasons for folding the flag as it is. You're right, each represents something.

P.S. Mulligans, I suggest if you're going to teach things to kids that you do some research. It's sad that you don't know the meaning behind what you teach. Time to educate yourself before you educate others!!

There is no reason for number of folds, it just goes to end so the fold in leaves the blue showing. The military folding is the same as any folding of flag. I have taught hundreds of Cub Scouts the proper way to handle & fold the flag, plus a a few dozen Boy Scouts in Citizenship class.
Just because a website says differently does not make it so.
Check the Boy Scout Citizen Merit Badge. The American Legion did make a meaning to folds in flags but the US law not nor is there any other reason is known for this. Military does not teach or require anything of than triangle folding with blue outside.
Check USMilitary.com - it explains how to fold not a religious ceremony written by unknown pastor. I am very religious but the flag is sacred & can only be changed by law, not by individual group.
