I was reading that there is a problem with this issue of the way non-immigrants are treated. Also, it states that non-Irish children are not automatically Irish citizens! Is this true?

Totally true! During the so called "Celtic Tiger" expansion of the Irish economy, thousands upon thousands of illegal immigrants flocked into the Ireland under the guise of "refugee" or "asylum". A few years earlier, when Ireland was dirt poor, nobody seemed to seek shelter there ... hmmmm .... in any case, people got pissed off, Ireland wised up, and it's now very, very difficult to emigrate to Ireland, unless you have ties there .... good for Ireland, when will the United States wake up and do the same?

Just as non-American children are not automatically citizens if their parents are illegal...immigrants from any part of Europe have free passage in Ireland..Refugees are well taken care of and all immigrants are given free medical and are allowed unemployment benefits.
