Is anyone else's child experiencing growing pains. My daughter is only 5, and she has either pulled a muscle or is having growing pains. Has anyone else been through this with a child before?

Her pains are only in one leg, so far, and she is limping. I called her pediatrician, and he says that there is nothing I can do besides rubbing her thigh for her, and put a heating pad on her. I'm just a little concerned because I have read about growing pains, and I know they are pretty normal, but she is limping, and can hardly stand up straight without help. GRANTED: She is only 5 - and when she's in pain, it's like she is going to die or something. She exaggerates a little.

Hello Missy,

A nice hot water bottle might help, errrrrm as long as its not to hot in case she decides to open it lol i expect a cuddle would help also, but i bet you do that already. :)

Oh yes...I even rushed her in to the doctor as if were an emergency. She is now eleven and gets them less frequently, but still occasionally. They are in her legs. The pain can be intense. The doctors have all confirmed that they are just growing pains, but it sure worried me. I thought she had some arthritis or worse. OF course, you should have her checked out by a doctor, but you don't probably need to rush in a panic like I did. But hey, if you feel the need, you are entitled!
(btw, I either use a hot pad on it for her, or sometimes if it is really bad, give her some advil or tylenol. And I massage them for her. She always takes vitamins, so I don't know if that makes any difference.)
Good luck!

Yes. I used to have terrible pains in my legs when I was growing. Especially at night. Lasted on and off for a couple years. Worst in the summers.

I had them, would wake up crying in the middle of the night, yelling for my mom. I did it all growing up. Did she do anything that would pull a muscle?

my son has had what seems to be "growing pains" since he was about 2. He wakes up in the middle of the night screaming holding his leg (one or the other) saying that it hurts.
ask your doctor about it. they will know what to do about it. they told me to give him vitamins. (they helped a bit) but ask your doc.

kids that age don't usually complain that much, but it is possible. i think i would feel better to take her to the dr. for a check-up and be sure!
