Most people who are offended by this question MUST find some truth in it and that's why they are getting all defensive.

and for all of you people that tell me to go back to my home i can't go anywhere because i was born here,so that makes this my home wether you like it or not!BUT i don't consider myself to be part of that group of americans that think they can do anything they please and get away with it just because i live in the UNITED STATES.

for the most part they are rude because as a nation they stomp around the world ignorantly, being a young country historically speaking they are like a stroppy teenager behaving badly if they dont get their own way this has rubbed onto americans as individuals they believe they are superior to everyone else (hah!) but this does not mean all americans (the native americans are cool!) and some american responses here only reiterate your point!

Gee - haven't you noticed that you can't ask a question or make an observation on here without someone ripping your head off? I'm Canadian - and I've had very few dealings with rude Canadians. And I've visited in the States [lived in California for 6 years and have my first four kids born there] and haven't noticed that there was an exceptional amount of rudeness. Some Americans are a bit snobby though, although I'm not sure why. Having George Bush as president would kinda knock people down a few pegs, you would think.
I went to Germany in 1989 - now THERE were some rude people. Lots of them. And most of them were merchants. You'd think that they'd be a little more polite to a potential customer - but nosirree. I was so-o-o-o-o glad to come back home.

I'm assuming that you're not American because you sound offended. Different cultures = different manners. Your definition of polite might be different from the definition that most Americans have. What is acceptable in one culture, is unacceptable in another. For example: In the US, it is considered rude to belch after a meal. But in some countries, belching is considered a compliment.
Ask Americans what they consider to be polite and what they consider rude. Then you will really know when they are being rude to you. Keep in mind, there are probably rude people in all countries. They'll act rude no matter what you do. It won't do much good to get angry. However, you can avoid them or try to ignore them.
I'm American. I see all kinds of manners. Some people I know are extremely polite. Some people are rude when they don't mean be. And, of course, some people are purposely rude. Where I live, it seems like people are polite more often than not.

I really don't think Americans are more rude than in other countries. I am a white American currently living in India, and the people here are soo rude. Also, French people tend to be more rude. English (from England) people seem to have the best manners. Maybe the reason the students are nice is because they are in a strange land. They must be nice if they don't want to be shunned out of the country they are visiting. They are trying to be liked. If you visit other countries, you will find their is rudeness everywhere. It's unfortunate!! :-(

I think it's because we as a society accept that behavior. From our love of sarcasm to our nasty comments on Yahoo Answers, Americans are just used to being rude and not having any consequences doing that. Actually, I think it has a lot to do with the environment you grow up in as well. I worked on phones 8 hrs a day and found that the North East dwellers (especially people from NY, MA, and NJ), were EXTREMELY rude, where as people in the south were very patient, very polite and a joy to work with. I just don't know. I try to make it a point to be polite. I figure if I do it, maybe it will remind someone else to do it to. :) Have a nice day...and thanks for your question! lol

Maybe were sick of the rest of the world taking advantage of us, other countries come to us to bail them out of wars, poverty, and the other stupid crap that happens in their country. They live in the USA illegally and take our resources instead of trying to improve their own countries. Most of us are hard working, tax paying people and if you don't like the fact that we tell you to kiss our American @sses then take your butt back where you come from.
Thank you and have a nice day!
