I am in north carolina. I am looking for free puppies in the caldwell country or surrounding areas. I prefer a very small dog not over 6 pounds. Prefer house dog although it doesn't have to be trained. If anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.

I tried the newspaper and saw no small puppies.

I am just looking for a little mutt puppy. I don't need a purebred dog. They charge 80 dollars at my local shelter and I didn't see any small pups either. If I did see one I would've gotten it.

A: plan on paying big bucks for small breed dogs like that.
B: try the local animal shelter
C: if you can't find a pet locally, try Petfinder. They also have a pets wanted page where you can post what you want or you can read ads posted by other people who have dogs for adoption. I've seen chihuahuas and yorkies on the classifieds as well as on the petfinder listings themselves.

Just don't plan on getting a toy dog like you want for nothing. People get a lot of money for toys. You can usually get a really nice smallish mixed breed from your local pound for a very reasonable adoption fee, and you'll be saving a life.

Free and puppies aren't usually in the same sentence. There's usually some cost associated with a puppy. The shelter probably charges money because they've done some medical care on the puppies like deworming, shots, and maybe spay/neutering.

You could try a weekend drive to some farm areas. Maybe someone out on a farm has a sign out for free puppies.

But I have to ask why you're trying to get a FREE puppy? Is it because you can't afford to buy one or pay an adoption/shelter fee? If that's the case, dog ownership probably isn't a good option for you. It's going to cost money to get the puppy's initial shots and follow up shots, flea medication, heartworm medication, and food. And that's just if everything goes OK. If he gets sick or hurt, it's going to cost more.

If you are looking for free because you can't afford to buy, you really should look through some of these posts because there are WAY TOO MANY POSTS from people who has a sick or injured pet and say they can't afford a vet visit. Not a good situation to willingly put you or an animal into.

Try an animal shelter, they may not be free but some charge less than $10...and if you can't afford that then how are you going to afford anything for the dog like food?
