I came into the religon and spirituality section expecting...well, surely not the type of questions and answers I'm seeing. I am repectfully asking if someone will please tell me what is going on in this forum.

Is it like this all the time, or is there peak and nonpeak hours?

Most of what's going on here is insults, bigotry and proselytizing. But occasionally you'll find a thoughtful question or answer. It's frustrating and depressing at times but if you're too tired for serious research and need to while away some time it can be enlightening.

There'll be peak and nonpeak hours of course. The Q/A's I think ya mean are usually from those who're bored/childish, and use Answers for entertainment. With religion/spirituality being such a volatile subject, they know they'll get a bigger audience than in other catagories. I'd either play along, or ignore the sick/dumb jokes for the legitimate questions. I figure if a kid's at the computer being annoying, at least he's not out getting into trouble.

It's mostly irreverant "rascals" with nothing better to do but try and push people's buttons, but there are some sincere seekers here. Lot's of immaturity, hate and prejudice as the other post said! You have to wade through hundreds of questions to find a single decent one worded with sincerety and intelligence. Sadly, this sight-section-microcosm is a reflection of the fallen and ignorant rascal macrocosm! Consciousness is plummetting on this poor planet! It works much the same way when people ask questions too......most of the answers are from tricksters-rascals too. As the lord has often said "It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack." But it is still worth the search-effort, at least for now. I have been tempted to sign off many times, but then I find a rare good question and I stay on for a while longer!

I think what you are seeing is typical. People are here for many different reasons --some are lonely, some are angry and hurt, all are seeking in one way or another, even those who ask silly and offensive questions. I often wonder whether some of the most offensive question askers are not people who feel very hurt and betrayed by past religious experiences. At some level it matters very deeply to them, otherwise why do they persist with such faithfulness in their attacks and offenses?

Sometimes I am quite impressed by the questions and answers here -- there are many people who are thinking very deeply. Sometimes I have to laugh at the silliness -- some people here are very imaginative and witty. And sometimes it's all just to much for me and I feel a bit like you seem to --so that's the time to visit some other place on this vast Internet or go outdoors and take a soul-refreshing walk.

Some believe that as a religion and spirituality section it only encompasses the Christian faith and none other, others try to ignore or respond to that point of view, sometimes quite vehemently, others treat it as a joke! Most answer according to their own conscience, I try to see it as a forum to debate and learn about other people within the limited confines of the answers and questions supplied...

What exactly were you expecting? Religion is the core reason for almost all wars and inhumanity towards others since the dawn of time. But you expect a religious forum to be all nice and loving?

August 12th was a realy good day ... a very intelligent person named Debra suggested we "celebrate" ignore hateful questions and answers day.
It was a realy peaceful day. I enjoyed it so much and I learned that when people ask and answer questions, being respectful of one another I think we can learn to be tolerant and understand one another better.
I hope we have more days like that.

What are you astonished about? The fact that satan likes to mess with christians or that christians are so adamant about their faith? I really would like to know because I'm not sure exactly what kind of answer you are looking for.

And to J T: It doesn't matter what level you are as to how good you are at answering. In fact, I found your answer to be quite impulsive and uninspiring....

What were you expecting?

I can't answer your question since you do not indicate what you expected.

Yes, it is always like this.

BTW, since you are new, the numbers below the pictures or avatars indicate experience on Y!A, so, you can consider answers given by Level 5 or above to be authoritative.

Outspoken religious characters v. outspoken non-religious characters in a battle to the death. Well, at least death in their questions. I mean, about death and what comes after. You know, intolerance kinda BS.

I honestly don't know why you're so astonished.
