Sounds like you are missing the driver for your video card. Go to the web site of the manufacterer of your PC and search on the model number. they should have the driver available for free, with install instructions.

While there, you may also ant to get the audio and any other drivers they offer for your model. Always better to run on the correct drivers rather than XPs generic drivers.

You'll need to download the proper codecs for the video that you are trying to view.

Is the movie in divx format? If so, you'll need the divx codec and a suitable player. I recommend zoom player: http://www.download.com/Zoom-Player-Standard/3000-2139_4-10345000.html?tag=lst-0-9

if you're referring to video playback, it most likely has to do with video codecs. look here:

http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=video+codecs&btnG=Search

If it's DVD playback, you'll probably need DIVX codecs:

http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/download/index.php

it's free, and plays back most videos just fine & dandy

You might also want to make sure you have the most current drivers for your video card
