You think you are confused? My dad married his half-niece, and her son was my step-brother and first cousin, once removed. . My grandfather was his great grandfather. My step-mother was my first-cousin (half).

It signifies that there are 2 extra generations on one fringe of the relations tree than on the different. Your cousin's newborn is your cousin once bumped off; your cousin's grandchild is your cousin two times bumped off, etc.

Second cousin to any of her children. Your children would be second cousin once removed. Do a search for cousin relations online and there are tables that you can look at that tell you all the relations.
