My friends and I want to buy a cheap RV/camper. Any details on how we can accomplish this would be appreciated.

Check your local craigslist.com listings, your local newspaper, and any vehicle trading sites/mags that might be in your region, ie if you're in LA, you've got the Auto Trader. If you have an ebay account, you might be able to buy one there for a good price as well.
It's like buying a car, and considering you might be going to remote areas with it, you'll want to make sure it's been maintained and in decent operating condition. Nothing worse than having a camping trip ruined by lousy equipment. Take a look at the links below for examples, as well as the youtube clip for the complications involved in caravaning.

There are folks who rent storage spaces for campers. Go there. I'm sure a few owners would be happy to sell theirs.

depending on what your willing to spend on a used camper, I always found good deals ($500.00) and up in the auto trader or trading times and local newspapers also trade ins at local dealers.
