Both my husband and I are professionals. He is an engineer and I am a teacher. We both have many of our textbooks from college. Is the information in them worth anything? Should we try to sell them or give them away, or just ditch them?

College textbooks change so frequently that I am sure it is a publisher's conspiracy. However, many students like to have access to the older textbooks for references. Much of the information doesn't change significantly, especially over the period of only a few years.
You might consider selling them on e-bay or advertising them on a university bulletin board or somewhere in a university town.
I gave away a lot of my teaching and education textbooks to schools.
Some churches have programs where they donate books to third world countries.
Consider a yard sale if they are popular in your area.
The Salvation Army stores and other thrift stores are always glad of donations.

First, try http://www.booksintocash.com/. If you are still left with books they won't take, try listing them on Amazon Marketplace - where fees are only charged when the items sell. As a last-ditch effort, you can try selling them on eBay, which will charge an insertion fee whether the books sell or not, but it is a very small amount.
After you have tried those, see whether any teachers in your local school district are interested. Often they like to have extra reference material on hand for their students' special projects, etc. If they don't want them, try your public library - they will often give you a receipt for a tax deductible donation.
Then, if any are left, it's time to ditch them!

Contact your alma mater and see if they are still using those particular textbooks. Most schools will buy back textbooks if they are still being used. You could also try to sell them on line. If nothing pans out, donate them to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. They sell used textbooks (as well as other kinds of books) in their thrift stores.

Ditch them most textbooks become obsolete every 2 years because the writer and publisher want to make more money out of the students.

You can't sell them for much of anything at least not through professional avenues. The editions change all the time. Craigslist helps and there are some university bookbin sites like textbooks.com that can hook you up with buyers.

You could donate to a school to be used by students with little money or sell them on E-Bay or another web site.

There are many struggling collage students, some can't afford to buy books needed for there classes. You could help a lot of them, by donating your books to them. Wouldn't it be nice to know you helped some one get the education they are seeking.

If no college or university will buy them back you could donate them to the local library. They always appreciate the contributions.
