I drive the wrangler unlimited. Its an automatic to boot and it came with a hard top which I took off for a while. Its a quiet ride and I really can't tell a difference from my 2001, other than I can haul more stuff in it. The back seat is nice for taking friends with but what I like is I can fold the front passenger seat forward, lift the rear window and sleep inside. My dog also likes this one better, riding on my cargo cover behind me, or on the floorboards by the AC. I get a great turning radious, great sounds, a cigarette lighter, an accessories plug and look around corner lights, A CD player, and better towing ability, so I believe I have a good vehicle. (In the late seventies I had a 74 CJ with the old fold down tailgate which I took off and put a 20 inch extension on and then put the tailgate on that and had the same thing except tailgates don't fold down anymore.) Its a great commuter because the seats are cushioned right, and it loves to creep which means you don't have to ride the brakes. Annother thing, if its a Rubicon, you also get real four wheel drive.

Read the safety ratings. They are perfectly safe to drive anywhere. They have airbags, seat belts, and something most vehicles don't have, a full roll bar. They do ride a stiffer than other things, but you can't take a Camry off road. As for rollover, anything can be rolled if the driver does not make wise decisions behind the wheel. I've driven Jeeps for ten years and feel perfectly safe having my 3 year old son in mine, and mine's a 1973 CJ5!

I can't speak for the unlimited, however; I have an 04 Wrangler which is my primary vehicle. The only issue I can see is the gas mileage around town (gets 20 on highway.) It is not a big enough issue for me to stop driving it.

These are very dangerous vehicles to drive in traffic. The ride bad, roll over easy in a crash, have very little crash protection, handle poorly in emergency maneuvers, and they dont stop well either. And on top of all that...they get crappy gas mileage and are hard to climb in and out of. How does a lady ever climb into one of these in a skirt and heels???
If you live in the mountains and hunt and fish alot in the backwoods...get an old jeep for that stuff...but for driving in traffic in the city there are FAR better choices. Just think! The life you save may be your own!

I have a wrangler it is a 1994. I drive it every day and love it.
I hve lived in a large city and it was great in traffice. Small and you can see well out of it. Park very easy and can go anywhere.
The Unlimited models are longer and have a much easier ride.
They have ciol springs and ride much better if you do not like the bounce.
I hated it I could not see out of it as well as mine and it drove like a car.
I like my older model and am keeping it.
They get bad gas mileage but I can go anywhere I need to.

hey i have had 3 jeeps my currents is a 1999 tj sport AND I AM CRAZY OVER JEEPS. i just love them and yes they are safe take it from me, of all the jeeps i have driven i have never got into a accident or had a hard time with any of them. now day jeeps are made with a wider wheel base and are so likely to roll over like they did in the 70's and 80's.

WOW there are some really narrow views here. I suggest you go test drive one. See how you like it. Read an independant review from somewhere like edmunds or consumer reports. It isn't for everyone. But most that have one wouldn't trade it for anything. It really is a love it or hate it kinda thing. But don't let anyone else tell you what to do.
