Our protocall is gown, gloves and surgical mask. MRSA can be present in the nose, causing it to become a droplet percaution (so technically goggles would be appropriate too - but I've never seen anyone use them). Any and all equipment that the patient has come in contact with must be cleaned using hospital grade cleaner. (in our case this means the whole back of the ambulance as well as the stretcher, monitor and everything else used) Linen should be bagged to be cleaned, and all gowns and gloves need to be disposed of properly.

It depends on what kind it is. If it is airborne then a face mask should be worn, and the air treated.

If the MRSA is in a open wound then gloves should be worn as to avoid bacterial contamiation by coming in contact with the bacteria, which can pass to you if you have an open wound as well, such as a paper cut.

MRSA, is usually harmless to a healthy adult that can make the antibodies to fight off the infection, but to the elderly and the very young it can be life threatening.
