Nah. What is fishy is how a group of not chosen people took it over, added to it and claimed it spoke of them the entire time.

Another reason? There are a million reasons why the Bible is in fact the Word of God, fulfilled prophecies, historical accuracy, absolutely no contradiction with hard science or archaeology. I'm not aware of a list of reasons the Bible can be discreditted.
It makes sense to have his chosen people write the book though, why would he have another people group that in that era typically practiced temple prostitution and human sacrifice to a plethora of dieties to write His Word.

Wouldn't it have been just as fishy if the OT had said that the people of Peru were the chosen people?

Not really. There are plenty of reasons it should not be taken as "The Word", and this isn't one. If God chose them to write it for him, they have been chosen (to write it). It's a matter of semantics.

no, it's not fishy, who do you think He should have got to write it, His enemies? That certainly is no reason the Bible shouldn't be believed. You can believe or refuse to believe, but it is true.

Would you want the "unchosen" to write God's word? Kind of a contradiction, isn't it?
