Or come in seen the ingrdients, remembered what you were like as a kid and think Oh si***, johnny where is is and what do you mix?

And how many parents tried all manner of stuff like this ...

Like the concentrated custard poweder thing, the cherry bomb stunt, etc etc...

Did parents catch you...

Did anyone go ont to doing it sensibly joining a specail effects or firework company or into demolition ?

Not to me but quite a few I have known have tried various things and picked up on young teens or youngers line of questioning telling the older lads to watch what they were saying as the little one was taking notes.

Known people to stuff copper tubes which is very dangerous but kids dont think that due to the sharpnel.

Made minor stuff myself (was into specail effects... and learnt painful lesson)

Seems pretty common with boys into chemistry...

bit like physics and making cars go faster or starting pirate radio, Whilst biology translates as girls.

Or botany = dope plat in the student broom cupboard with the broom wtih cobwebsa as never sees the light of day.

Also in legue with the animated cadaver to scare the girls gag in medical school.

So thought its a fair probability that the bomb squad must get lots of these type calls to clean up the smart asses home concoction when he realises maybe it was not so smart

Also is it an urban myth that in one school the guys tried to get rid of the chemicals down the school toilets then someone dropped a match down or something like that and the school sewage system blow up and all the loos along with it...

Then tried to hush it up

No I dont have a kid who does that...

but met loads who have conducted home experiemnts of the boom boom kind including the custard powder explosive trick...

None had any intention of hurting others... It would be more of a case of too keen and smart for own good then thinking opps er maybe this was no so bright what the *((( do I do with this...

Well my grade 7 class wanted to make pipe bombs... So our teacher let us figure out what we needed to make them, told us not to tho... One of the guys in our class went home and made one... He brought it to school and then realized he took a bomb to school and hid it in the ESL room... Then he went and called the school and told them there was a bomb in the school... They never bothered evacuating us till they actually found the bomb... They brought a bunch of sniffer dogs in but I think they just thougth it was a dumb joke from some guy who hasnt hit puberty yet... When they found a bomb they were a lil freaked out and evacuated the school, then they took it away... I'm not sure if he ever got caught but everyone in the grade knew it was him...

Thats the closest I've ever gotten to that sorta thing...

Look on the bright side, he is trying to learn, at least he isnt one of those kids out on the streets doing drugs, making the "pipe bomb" to hurt people, and every other horrible things they do now days. After all since he is experimenting, he may become the Doctor who invents a cure for Cancer or AIDS...
Maybe having a serious talk with him and let him KNOW the seriousness in bombs and terrorism today....I mean it could have turned out a whole lot worse, and he needs to know what the end results could have been if his experiment had it gone bad.
Yes there is a time to give a good ole fashion whoopin, and there is a time where a serious heart to heart talk does alot better. In this case I think he needs a heart to heart. Because he wasnt trying to hurt anyone, but he just didnt study up on it enough to know what "could have" happened. That is where he made his mistake, not thinking things through.

I think it's well funny about what your boy did, you need to keep a close eye on him now, as for the urban myth it is virtually impossible to do such a thing, it would only work if the fuel was dry.
